A record-breaking Premier League summer transfer window has finally come to an end with clubs splashing out a whopping £2.36billion.

The top-flight record Transfer was broken following Chelsea’s signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton for £115m.

Meanwhile there was also another transfer that eclipsed the £100m barrier with Arsenal bringing in Declan Rice for a fee rising to £105m.

Incredibly, Premier League clubs spent an extra £440m more on players than last summer, according to analysis from Deloitte.

Meanwhile England’s top-flight clubs spent almost as much as Europe’s other ‘top five’ countries combined.

But who were the biggest winners and losers from the transfer window? talkSPORT.com takes a closer look.

WINNERS

ARSENAL

They may have failed to bring in a fresh face on deadline day, but what a remarkable summer it was for the Gunners.

With Granit Xhaka departing, Mikel Arteta knew he needed to bring in a new combative midfielder, with Rice perfectly fitting the bill.

A new versatile full-back was also snapped up, with Jurrien Timber a £40m arrival from Ajax.

He dazzled in pre-season and in his first two competitive matches, before suffering an ACL injury that could keep him out for the rest of the campaign.

Kai Havertz was also snapped up from Chelsea for £65m to add depth to Arsenal’s midfield and attack.

But despite failing to provide a goal contribution in four outings so far, Arteta is adamant he will soon start to justify his price tag.

And just for good measure, Arsenal then shocked everyone by landing goalkeeper David Raya on loan with an option to buy, with Aaron Ramsdale now having genuine competition for his No.1 jersey.

Arsenal lost the Premier League last season due a lack of depth, and now they can have no excuses not to mount another title tilt.

WEST HAM

The Hammers were slow in making their first signing, but boy have they spent the Rice money well.

Two stars from Ajax were brought in – defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez for £34m and attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus for £38m.

Former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos was also signed from Stuttgart for an initial £17m.

The east London outfit also splashed out £30m to bring in James Ward-Prowse from Southampton.

And the England international is proving to be one of the signings of the summer having chipped in with one goal and three assists in his opening three matches.

His stunning form has helped West Ham reach the summit of the table, with the club picking up ten points from a possible 12 on offer.

And as equally important as all the incomings, West Ham also avoided selling Lucas Paqueta with Manchester City headily linked.

BRIGHTON

The Seagulls just can’t do wrong at the moment.

Not only will they be playing European football this season for the first time in their history, but they now have the squad to justify their inclusion.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side signed seven first-team players during the summer – including the acquisition of Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati on loan.

Such a transfer may have seemed impossible to Brighton fans last year, but the south coast side are a club whose trajectory is only on the way up.

Along with Fati, Brighton brought in Joao Pedro, Mahmoud Dahoud, James Milner, Bart Verbruggen, Igor and Carlos Baleba on permanent deals.

That is addition to selling Caidedo and Robert Sanchez for £115m and £25m respectively, as well as Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool in a move rising to £55m.

LOSERS

Everton fans, the less said the better.

Having narrowly survived relegation in the last two seasons, this was the summer where the club needed to go big – especially with the Toffees set to move into their new stadium next year.

But the Merseyside outfit just haven’t done enough, with veteran full-back Ashley Young, 38, arriving on a free transfer, along with teenage forward Youssef Chermiti and striker Beto.

And they also brought in wingers Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma on loan.

That’s four forwards and no centre-backs or midfielders to help fix one of the leakiest defences in the Premier League.

To make matters worse for Everton, they also sold arguably one of their best players in Alex Iwobi on deadline day to Fulham.

With Everton losing their opening three Premier League matches, supporters may already be praying for another miracle.

WOLVES

The Midlands outfit’s season was thrown into chaos before the season already started with boss Julen Lopetegui parting ways with the club after growing frustrated by a lack of transfer activity.

At the time of his dismissal, Wolves had only turned the loan spells of Matheus Cunha and Boubacar Traore into permanent stays.

Meanwhile the club had also re-signed Irish right-back Matt Doherty on a free transfer.

Not enough for a club that had sold Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins, Conor Coady and Raul Jimenez and had also released Joao Moutinho, Diego Costa and Adama Traore.

The end of the window then saw Matheus Nunes depart for Man City for £53m.

Though Wolves did make late signings of their own, with Tommy Coyle joining from the Citizens on loan, while bringing in centre-back Santiago Bueno and midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde on permanent deals.

But supporters would have been expecting more – especially with the club losing two out of their opening three fixtures.

SHEFFIELD UNITED

The Blades were always going to struggle following their promotion to the Premier League.

But what is key for a newly-promoted side is to not sell your best player, however that’s exactly what happened after begrudgingly offloading Iliman Ndiaye to Marseille.

That is addition to cashing in on star midfielder Sander Berge, who they sold to fellow Premier League new boys Burnley.

United fans will be pleased by the loan return of James McAtee from the Citizens, who helped them finish second in the Championship last term.

But fans may slightly be underwhelmed by the permanent arrivals of Tom Davies on a free transfer, as well as Gustavo Hamer, Vinicuis Souza and Auston Trusty and Cameron Archer from Arsenal and Aston Villa respectively.

Like Everton, United have lost all three of their opening matches, with supporters appearing to be right in their fears of surviving this season.
