Luis Rubiales’ mother has gone on hunger strike, locked herself in a church and told Jenni Hermoso to ‘tell the truth’.

It is the latest twist in an astonishing story that has dominated Spanish football since the women’s team won the World Cup.

Instead of celebrating their historic victory, La Roja’s glory has been overshadowed by the actions of RFEF president Rubiales, who kissed Hermoso after Spain beat England for the World Cup.

It has led to huge backlash and calls for Rubiales to stand down, something he refused to do in an extraordinary general assembly, where he also insisted the kiss was consensual.

But Hermoso released a statement that insisted that the kiss was against her will and has been supported by players and coaches alike, including the Lionesses.

FIFA have suspended Rubiales for 90 days pending an investigation and the RFEF have opened a sexual violence protocol into the president as well.

However, in a remarkable turn of events, Rubiales’ mother Angeles Bejar has locked herself in a local church in Montril, according to COPE.

She has gone on Hunger Strike and is refusing to eat in protest of the ‘manhunt’ against her son.

She has also demanded that Hermoso ‘tell the truth’ over the incident.

“They are doing with my son with something he does not deserve,” she said. “He is incapable of hurting anyone.”

As well as kissing Hermoso, Rubiales has come under fire for a string of inappropriate moments at the World Cup final.

He was spotted grabbing his crotch in the company of Queen Letizia and her teenage daughter as Spain beat England.

And on the pitch, he was seen parading on the pitch carrying Spanish players over his shoulder.

Spain women’s coaching staff all resigned in protest over Rubiales and his actions, leaving Jorge Vilda standing on his own.

Rubiales has been banned from speaking to Hermoso or anyone close to her by FIFA, as well as the RFEF, who had threatened her with legal action on Saturday.
