Inter Milan’s sporting director ‘issues a warning to Manchester United over £34m keeper Andre Onana’

Inter Milan ‘issue warning to Man United over £34m keeper Andre Onana’, with their sporting director claiming offers so far ‘don’t meet our expectations’

  • Inter Milan’s Sporting Director has issued a warning to Manchester United
  • The Red Devils were said to be bidding £34m plus add-ons for Andre Onana
  • Piero Ausilio revealed that Inter had received no offers matching expectations

Inter Milan’s sporting director has issued a warning to Manchester United, claiming no bid for goalkeeper Andre Onana has meet their expectations so far.

On Wednesday, Mail Sport revealed that Erik ten Hag’s side were making an offer for Onana worth £34m plus add-ons as they look to replace David De Gea between the sticks.

But whilst the Red Devils will be hopeful they can bring the Cameroon keeper to the Premier League, Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio has said that the Italian club have no plans to let him leave – unless they get the right bid.

According to the Daily Mirror, Ausilio said: ‘Right now Onana is Inter’s goalkeeper. He’s one of the strengths of the team and with strong players we’d like to move forward.

‘If opportunities arise, we’ll evaluate them, but to date they haven’t arrived or they don’t meet our expectations.’

It is thought Inter Milan want £50m for 27-year-old Onana, significant short of Man United’s intended offer.

However, ten Hag’s side are looking for a goalkeeper after the end of De Gea’s tenure between the posts.

As a free agent, it was recently claimed that the Spanish goalkeeper could be given a lucrative offer to team up with former Man United colleague Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

The club reunite for pre-season next week, and Ausilio believes Onana will still be part of the team then.

He said: ‘In this moment he’s our goalkeeper and Andre is key player for us – we’d like to keep him, then we’ll see what happens. We wait for him on July 13 for pre season.’

Manager Erik ten Hag previously worked with Onana during their time together at Ajax

Piero Ausilio expects Onana to still be an Inter player when pre-season starts on July 13

Inter Milan finished runners up in the Champions League last season to Manchester City, while the team finished third in Serie A behind Lazio and title winners Napoli.

Onana has been on the books at Inter Milan since last year, after joining from Ajax – where he worked closely with ten Hag before the Dutchman took the helm at Old Trafford.

He has also played 34 games for Cameroon, finishing his international career at last year’s World Cup, where he was sent home by the manager due to a disciplinary issue.

Ausilio also said that Inter were ‘evaluating if there are the possibilities’ of signing Romelu Lukaku permanently, with a second year on loan not available to the club.
