Christian Pulisic opens up on Chelsea future and admits he ‘wants to find joy again’

Christian Pulisic has admitted he wants to leave Chelsea ‘to find joy again’ after a tough time at the club.

The United States international has been heavily linked with a transfer away this summer.

It follows an injury-ravaged season while he was largely left out of the first-team picture even when he was fit.

While he made 30 appearances in total in all competitions, Pulisic managed just seven starts in the Premier League.

And the 24-year-old has made up his mind over leaving Chelsea this summer as he looks to rebuild his career.

“It’s absolutely a time where I need to figure out what’s going to be best for my future and be somewhere where I can go and play and be trusted and feel good in what I’m doing,” Pulisic told ESPN.

“I want to find that joy at club level again, for sure.”

The winger has one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are keen to cash in now before losing him on a free transfer.

Christopher Nkunku has already arrived to bolster the attacking ranks from RB Leipzig, further pushing Pulisic down the pecking order.

Several clubs are keeping tabs on the American, including Juventus who have had a long-term interest in him.

Crystal Palace and Lyon have also been linked while it is not yet known what price the Blues are looking for.

But is expected to be a huge decrease on the £58million fee they paid for Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund in 2019.

He managed just one Premier League goal last season and just 26 during his time in total in Chelsea colours.

The west London outfit are currently undergoing a squad rebuild and have been looking to cast off fringe players this summer.

Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, Hakim Ziyech are all expected to leave for Saudi Arabia and Callum Hudson-Odoi and Romelu Lukaku could join them.

N’Golo Kante has also already left for the Gulf state while Mateo Kovacic looks set to sign for Manchester City.

Mason Mount has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United, Arsenal are set to sign Kai Havertz and Cesar Azpilicueta, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang could all leave.

Mauricio Pochettino is set to take training next month for the first time as the new manager after replacing Graham Potter and then interim coach Frank Lampard.

And despite spending close to £600m last season, the Blues are still bringing in players.

The aforementioned Nkunku has already joined while a move for Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal is close to being completed.

Moises Caicedo has also been heavily linked, as well as Romeo Lavia, Gabri Veiga, Andre Onana and Yunus Musah.
