Paris Saint-Germain ‘sack head coach Christophe Galtier’ after a single season in charge

PSG ‘sack Christophe Galtier’ after just ONE season in charge in the French capital… despite helping the champions win their 11th Ligue 1 title

  • Speculation had mounted that PSG would fire the 56-year-old at season’s end
  • Galtier joined the club from Ligue 1 rivals Nice in July 2022 on a two-year deal
  • But failure in the Champions League helped force the hand of club’s hierarchy

Paris Saint-Germain‘s manager Christophe Galtier has been sacked after just one season at the Ligue 1 champions, according to reports.

The 56-year-old signed a two-year deal with the Qatari-backed Club upon his appointment in July 2022, but failed to complete a single year in the French capital.

Whilst Galtier led the side to their 11th championship after a successful 2022-23 league campaign, his time at PSG was blighted by a failure to progress past the round-of-16 in the Champions League.

Attaining success at the highest level in Europe is something that has eluded the Parisian behemoths, and two igniminious losses against Bayern Munich in the first round of the knockout stages dealth Galtier a marked card.

PSG also experienced a too-brief Coupe de France campaign, falling to Olympique Marseille in the round-of-16.

Paris Saint-Germain are believed to have sacked Christophe Galtier after a single season

Despite winning the club their 11th Ligue 1 title, Galtier has failed to impress in the capital

As per Le Parisien, Galtier was dismissed by director Luis Campos on Tuesday afternoon, but the decision is believed to have come as little surprise to the head coach.

His tenure was checkered further by allegations of racism said to have been committed by Galtier during his time at Nice, which the coach has strenuously denied.

Galtier is alleged to have made complaints that he had ‘too many black and Muslim players’ during his time at the Riviera club, and Nice-Matin reported that Galtier had asked his Muslim players not to observe Ramadan during a five-game winning streak.

The manager’s dismissal comes against a turbulent start to the month for the champions: landmark transfer Lionel Messi will leave the club after failing to impress in Paris, as will Sergio Ramos, and world record signing Neymar Jnr is reported to be eyeing a move to Manchester United.

The club’s hierarchy are yet to have announced who will succeed Galtier, but former Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann – whose side knocked out Galtier’s in Europe – is believed to be the heavily-favoured candidate.

Roma head coach Jose Mourinho has also been considered, with a question mark lingering over whether the storied manager will stay in the Italian capital after their failure to win the Europa League on Wednesday.

Lionel Messi is one of the high-profile departures that PSG may have to contend with during the summer transfer window
