Manchester City could cancel plans to hold an end-of-season trophy parade if they fail to win next week’s Champions League final against Inter Milan.

The club have pencilled in Monday, June 12 for an open-top bus celebration with fans if they lift the European Cup for the first time, but it will not be confirmed until after the result in Istanbul. 

The final decision will rest with manager Pep Guardiola, who may choose to let the players go on holiday if they are deflated by a shock defeat by Inter next Saturday.

Manchester United will not hold a parade if they clinch a domestic cup double by beating City in the FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon, with Erik ten Hag having already decided to send his players on holiday straight after the game at Wembley.

JUDE HOUSE HUNTING IN MADRID 

Jude Bellingham’s representatives have started inspecting apartments in Madrid ahead of his expected £100million-plus transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

Real Madrid have beaten off competition from Manchester City with the offer of a six-year contract at the Bernabeu for the England midfielder, with a formal announcement expected in the next few weeks. 

Bellingham moved to Germany from Birmingham at the age of 16 so is used to living abroad and his family have already begun the process of ensuring he will settle in Madrid.

WHY LEEDS CHIEF STAYED AWAY 

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani’s decision to stay away from the home defeat by Tottenham that confirmed their relegation last Sunday was influenced by the abuse his family received from fans at the previous fixture at Elland Road, a 2-2 draw with Newcastle last month.

The Italian’s absence has further angered Leeds’ fanbase, and he is likely to face a torrid reception at Elland Road if he remains in charge of the club in the Championship next season.

ITV SIGN HAYES FOR WORLD CUP 

ITV have pulled off a coup by recruiting Chelsea manager Emma Hayes as a pundit for their coverage of the Women’s World Cup this summer. 

ITV are set to share live rights for the tournament with the BBC for the first time, with all 64 matches to be broadcast live, although the deal has yet to be signed as FIFA are unhappy with the offers they have received from other European markets.

At around £8m, the joint ITV/BBC bid is worth almost eight per cent of what they paid FIFA for last year’s men’s World Cup in Qatar, although that is still considerably more than the one per cent offered by Italian broadcasters.

The terrestrial channels are planning to save costs by only sending small teams to the tournament in Australia and New Zealand, but Hayes will lend considerable authority and insight to ITV’s coverage. 

FIFA have signed TV contracts in 157 countries to cover the World Cup, with the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Japan the biggest markets that have yet to commit to the tournament.

TERRIERS’ TRANSFER GURU EXITS

Huddersfield Town’s head of football operations Leigh Bromby is to leave the club this summer following the completion of a takeover by American businessman Kevin Nagle. 

Bromby was in charge of transfer strategy at the Championship club, who are also looking for a new manager after Neil Warnock succeeded in keeping them up having being appointed on a short-term deal in February.

LABOUR’S TOP-FLIGHT WARNING

Shadow culture secretary Lucy Powell has warned the Premier League that if they do not quickly comply with Government proposals to create an independent regulator then they will face far tougher restrictions should Labour win the next general election.

The Manchester Central MP has held meetings with several Premier League clubs over the last few weeks and spelt out in no uncertain terms that a Labour government would take a more hands-on approach to regulating football than the Conservatives.
