Cristiano Ronaldo Sets Guinness World Record with 200 International Caps for Portugal

In a remarkable feat, Cristiano Ronaldo, the legendary forward, has achieved yet another milestone in his illustrious career.

The Portuguese superstar reached an unprecedented 200 international caps for his national team, Selecao das Quinas, during their Euro 2024 qualifier against Iceland.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Guinness Book of Records Holder

This remarkable achievement has earned Ronaldo the title of the most-capped player in the history of international football, a record recognized and acknowledged by the prestigious Guinness Book of Records.

Prior to the highly anticipated clash against Iceland, Ronaldo was presented with a well-deserved certificate to commemorate this extraordinary accomplishment.

Ronaldo’s journey with the national team began back in 2003 when he made his debut at the tender age of 18.

Since then, he has been an instrumental figure in the success of the Portuguese side, notably leading them to victory in the 2016 European Championships.

As he continues to etch his name in the annals of football history, it is no surprise that Ronaldo has his sights set on the forthcoming edition of the tournament.

Ronaldo gives Portugal late win against Iceland

In the highly anticipated clash against Iceland, Portugal found themselves facing a resilient opposition that proved difficult to break down. Despite their best efforts, the deadlock remained unbroken until late in the game.

However, as the pressure mounted and the tension rose, Portugal seized their opportunity following a red card shown to Willum Thor Willumsson of Iceland for a second yellow card offense, resulting from a rough tackle on substitute Goncalo Inacio in the 81st minute.

It was Ronaldo’s moment to shine once again. In the 89th minute, he unleashed a stunning strike that found the back of the net, securing a crucial 1-0 victory for Portugal.

Initially, the goal was ruled out by the referee for offside, leaving Ronaldo and the Portuguese fans momentarily disappointed. However, the advent of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology intervened, offering a lifeline.

Upon closer inspection through the VAR replay, it became evident that Ronaldo had been fractionally onside, and thus, the goal was rightfully awarded.
