If, as expected, Morgan gets the job, he will follow previous Wales skippers such as Sam Warburton, Alan Wyn Jones and Gareth Thomas to lead his country in the biggest sports arena. We went with two experienced guys to Hoops [Hooper] and Slipps [Slipper] but unfortunately Hoops got injured after one game so that was the end of that experiment. it’s the right combination of people to be a team captain… it’s more than captaincy. Will is a very good leader.”

Skelton recalled one previous captaincy experience when he led the Wallaby XV against the French Barbarians in 2016, a match in which his team lost 19–11. He will pair with Richie Arnold or Nick Frost for the Rugby World Cup.

We have a lot of experience in the pack, we have big men, Skelton said. They love the physical battle, with this size and this strength, we can dodge it in one of two ways, or we can move forward and make that contact and that physicality.
