Early Life and Background

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was born on October 25, 1997, in Khulna, Bangladesh. His cricket journey started at a young age, picking up a cricket bat and ball at just 8 years old. He polished his skills at the Kashipur Cricket Academy and quickly rose through the ranks, catching the attention of selectors.

2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup

Miraz got his first fame when he was named the captain of Bangladesh’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Despite primarily being known as a lower-middle-order bowling all-rounder, Miraz played a pivotal role in leading his team to the semi-finals. He performed really mesmerizing in under-19 world cup. He got the title of Player of the Tournament, scoring 242 runs and taking 12 wickets in six matches.

Domestic Career

Miraz made his first-class debut against the Rajshahi Division cricket team on February 16, 2015. In his debut match, he showcased his ability by hitting 51 runs and taking four wickets. He later ventured into Twenty20 (T20) cricket, representing teams like Rajshahi Kings and Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

International Career

Miraz made his Test debut against England on October 20, 2016. Despite being an off-break bowler, he opened the bowling in his debut Test innings, an unusual but successful choice. He took 5- wicket haul and became youngest Bangladeshi player to do so in a debut test match. 

 Miraz made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on March 25, 2017.  His career-best figure of 4-25 came in a match against West Indies in January 2021.

Notable Achievements

In the year 2022, Miraz was the leading wicket-taker for Bangladesh across all formats.

He was named in Wisden’s Men’s ODI Team Of the Year for 2022.

Miraz made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka on April 6, 2017.

Personal Life

On March 15, 2019, Miraz and his teammates narrowly avoided a terrorist attack at the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand. This harrowing experience led him to marry his long-time fiancée Rabeya Akhter Priti just six days later, as a way to overcome the shock of the terror attack.
