Reader Update on Malaysia Airlines Business Class Meals

A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us an update on Business Class meals Malaysia Airlines continues to serve on its flights within Asia due to the self-imposed catering meltdown that started in early September (read more here).

Readers are encouraged to send us questions, comments, or opinions by email, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. We’ll try to cover them here several times a week.

You can access Malaysia Airlines here.

The featured image above is from a reader who posted it on our Facebook page in early September and is unrelated to the reader’s update below.

Malaysia Airlines Catering Piece in September:

Malaysia Airlines Catering Chaos! (Bring Your Own Food)

Summary: Malaysia Airlines ended its agreement with the main F&B supplier in September with no agreements with other caterers in KL.

Reader’s Malaysia Airlines Business Class F&B Update:

I have just taken 4 Business class flights with MH and want to share my abysmal experience.

Have to say the staff and the service they were able to provide was their usual excellent standard.  Friendly with no attitude.!

BKK to KUL

No pre flight drink, usually non alcoholic provided.

They had 2 choices of hot meals, actually quite tasty but it looked like the Economy class standard. Actually all 4 flights looked that way.

No appetizer.

There were no cloth table covers provided, paper napkins and flimsy plastic cutlery.  Usually proper cutlery is provided.

Desert was a prepacked slice of cake. I didn’t open it.

KUL to ICN

An overnight flight and again no pre flight drink offered.

I skipped the midnight service and breakfast consisted of a choice of 2 hot options and a prepacked muffin.  Plastic cutlery and no cloth napkins etc.  No fruit or yoghurt.

ICN to KUL

Slightly better on this daytime flight.

No pre flight drink.

Two rounds/offers of drinks, including alcohol, after take off.

Wine was served in flimsy plastic cups.!

The satay service appeared on this flight.

Again, 2 hot choices. again very tasty but presentation was very ordinary. Plastic cutlery, no cloth table cover or cloth napkin.

No appetizer and a prepacked muffin was offered for desert.

The second service on this flight was a prepacked small sandwich.

KUL to BKK

This was identical to the BKK to KUL flight but ore flight drinks were offered.

Overall a very disappointing experience.

MH has always been a pretty good Business class experience, not up with he big players and at attractive prices.

After each flight I received 2 emails, one a flight survey and a second survey on the flight catering experience.

None of the catering surveys had a link to a survey or an attachment.

I have contacted MH re this.  They will get back to me.

Noticed at BKK luggage carousel, a large sign stating that lost or delayed luggage was now to be self-reported via an app.!

God help anyone who needs to do this.

I was in touch with the reader, and unfortunately, they didn’t take any photos of the food served, but they told me that it was identical to what we covered in the piece last month.

Do you have photos of Malaysia Airlines’ recent business or economy meals? You can email them to us, and we can add them here.

Conclusion

There is no excuse for Malaysia Airlines not to have proper catering ex-Seoul because these flights are not and cannot be catered ex-Kuala Lumpur due to the flight length, and the service should be standard.

How long does Malaysia Airlines plan to continue serving economy meals for business class passengers, claiming an issue with their caterers when they ended the contract before having alternates in place?

I don’t get it.

And you should NEVER report delayed bags using an online form because you need the proper Property Irregularity Report (PIR) for any claims you may have to file later.
