Amazon Prime Day 2023 returns in October for more exclusive deals: Here’s what you need to know

Tags: amazon deal

Amazon Prime Day is coming back in October, and Amazon calls it “Prime Big Deal Days.” It’s a sale only for Prime members, similar to last year’s Prime Early Access Sale but with a different (sort of) name.

Anticipate a Prime Day 2 event with a 48-hour sale featuring a variety of deals in all your favorite categories. It’s a warm-up to Black Friday. If you’re looking for Amazon devices such as Kindle, Echo speakers, or Fire Stick, you’ll probably find the best prices of the year, possibly even lower than Black Friday, since this is a major Amazon event.

Amazon has officially announced that the specific dates for Prime Big Deal Days will be October 10th and 11th. This aligns with previous October and Summer Prime Day schedules, falling around the middle of the month and spanning from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Our skilled team of deal hunters will be actively searching for the best deals throughout the 48-hour event to let you know which ones are genuinely worthy of your consideration. Additionally, we’ll be on the lookout for products we’ve recommended in our buying guides, ensuring you save money on tried-and-tested, high-quality items.

Amazon typically offers some early Prime Day deals, and we’ve compiled the best ones we’ve come across below. This includes significant discounts on Amazon devices, such as Fire Sticks at half price. It’s unlikely that you’ll find better deals on the actual Prime Day when prices are already so low. If you spot any Amazon devices on the website without a discount, it’s best to wait until Tuesday, as they will probably be on sale for Prime Day.

We have a dedicated “What is Prime Day?” guide if you’d like to see a deeper dive into the bigger event, along with many shopping tips and tricks to ensure you get the best out of the sale this Prime Day. The short version is that it’s a sale with exclusive discounts for Amazon Prime members.

It’s often up there with Black Friday as far as the discounts go, and it’s the best time, bar none, to get the lowest prices on Amazon’s own devices like Echos, the best Kindles, and Fire Sticks. If you’re not a Prime member, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial if you haven’t used the service before.

How to prepare for the Prime Day sale

Sign up for Prime: As a reminder, only Prime members can participate in these sales. That said, you can sign up, take advantage of the free 30-day trial, and cancel it after the event. If you plan to cancel your Amazon Prime account after Prime Day, be sure to set a reminder as well.

Consider maximizing your rewards: The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature credit card could be a good option if you’re in the market for a new credit card, especially if you do a lot of shopping on Amazon. In addition to a $200 Amazon gift card, you’ll get a range of other bonuses as listed below. For a more comprehensive roundup of options, be sure to take a look at our best credit card guide.

Plan before you shop: With big sales events like Prime Day, filling your cart with things you don’t need is easy. That’s why we recommend setting a budget and a shortlist of specific items you want to buy in advance. Take the time to outline what things you want to buy, research them in advance, and then save them to your Amazon Wish List so you’re ready to go if those items go on sale.

Are Prime Day deals the same on both days?

During the 48-hour event, Amazon will unveil a plethora of deals. While some will be available throughout both days, others will vanish quickly due to high demand. If you decide to shop on the first day of Prime Day, you can look forward to a fresh batch of new deals on the second day.

As someone who has closely followed every Prime Day event, I can confidently say that the deals introduced on the first day are usually the most appealing. Therefore, it’s wise not to casually join in halfway through the second day, as you might miss out on the best offers. Additionally, the most affordable Amazon devices often sell out by that point as well.

What about the Amazon Prime Early Access Sale?

Amazon called the October 2022 event “Prime Early Access Sale,” exclusively for Prime members. Its purpose was to provide Prime members with exclusive early access to holiday deals, hence the name. While not technically another Prime Day, it shared many similarities. Much like the annual summer Prime Day, you needed a Prime subscription to access all the deals during this two-day event.

There were some excellent deals, especially on Amazon devices. However, it didn’t match the strength of the summer event, and its proximity to the Black Friday season, along with its less appealing branding, made it challenging to persuade shoppers when potentially larger discounts were on the horizon. In many cases, this turned out to be accurate. Perhaps this revamped version will be more compelling this year.
