Powerball Jackpot Winner in California Wins $1.08 Billion: Third-Highest Ever

Wednesday’s Powerball draw resulted in an extraordinary win for a fortunate player in California, who now finds themselves $1.08 billion richer, marking the third-highest jackpot ever recorded.

The estimated cash value of this remarkable jackpot is an astounding $558.1 million.

The winning combination consisted of the numbers 7, 13, 10, 24, and 11, with the Powerball number being 24. Additionally, the Power Play multiplier for the lucky ticket was 2X.

In a statement released by the Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director, Drew Svitko expressed that this momentous jackpot run is historic, as it is only the third time in Powerball’s 31-year history that a jackpot has reached the impressive billion-dollar threshold

Three fortunate players managed to secure a generous $2 million prize each by matching five white balls along with the Power Play. Additionally, 36 individuals celebrated winning the $1 million prize for matching five white balls.

Among the other notable Powerball jackpots won throughout the year, there was a massive $754.6 million jackpot won in Washington on January 5, a significant $162.6 million jackpot won in Virginia on March 4, and a substantial $252.6 million jackpot won in Ohio on April 19.

According to the lottery, there have been only two Powerball jackpots in the past that surpassed the current one in terms of size.

In 2022, Powerball awarded its largest-ever grand prize, reaching an impressive $2.04 billion. Similarly, back in 2016, the second-largest jackpot was won by an individual, amounting to $1.586 billion, as reported by the lottery.

In April, there were two instances of a winning ticket for the Mega Millions jackpot. On April 14, the estimated prize was a substantial $483 million, and just four days later, it was $20 million, as reported by the lottery.

Collectively, the two popular lotteries, Powerball and Mega Millions, offered an astonishing sum of nearly $2 billion in jackpots. The Powerball jackpot reached an impressive $1 billion, while the Mega Millions jackpot soared to $720 million.

The chances of winning the grand prize jackpot stand at 1 in 292.2 million.
