3 stars Hansi Flick could easily sign for Barcelona

Bavaria, Munich: Soccer: FC Bayern Munich's memorial service for Franz Beckenbauer in the Allianz Arena. Former national coaches Joachim Löw (l) and Hansi Flick take part in the memorial service for the deceased soccer star and coach. Beckenbauer died on January 7 at the age of 78.

Barcelona have chosen Hansi Flick as their new man to replace Xavi, and he brings plenty of fanfare as well as Champions League winning experience to a side that has suffered far too many disappointments in European football’s elite competition – including against Flick himself.

But Flick cannot do it alone. He needs the right players around him to ensure his success. Here are three star players Hansi Flick could bring to Barcelona in 2024 to help him in his first season at the helm.

Bayern Munich DM Joshua Kimmich

The most obvious signing is Joshua Kimmich, who enjoyed an excellent season in 2019/20 under Hansi Flick with four goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga as well as 2.5 key passes per game in the Champions League.

Kimmich was already on Barcelona’s radar as a coveted summer 2024 transfer target to fill their huge need in midfield, even before Flick arrived.

The great thing about signing Kimmich with Flick as manager is that Flick will now how to utilize him best and the fact that Kimmich isn’t a true anchoring 6.

Flick can find the right way to get the most out of Kimmich in the midfield without asking the German international to be something he is not.

RB Leipzig FW Timo Werner

Hansi Flick knows as well as anyone that Timo Werner isn’t an out-and-out striker. The German international is finding it hard to latch on somewhere, having fallen in the eyes of many after severely poor finishing at Chelsea that marred his 2020/21 Champions League triumph with the club.

Werner was once one of the most prolific players in the Bundesliga before making that jump to Chelsea, scoring 28 goals with 8 assists in the 2019/20 season under Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig.

The careers of Flick and Nagelsmann are intertwined due to their parallel courses with Bayern Munich and the German national team, and Flick surely respects the fine work Nagelsmann and Werner did together in that season Bayern otherwise dominated.

Werner could be a cheap flier and even free, as RB Leipzig loaned him to Tottenham this past season and would be all too keen to do the same after the 28-year-old struggled to make more than 10 Premier League appearances.

He could fit Barcelona as a left winger, providing the goal-scoring touch the club is looking for as a supplement to the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Vitor Roque up top.

Bayern Munich LW Kingsley Coman

Though the injuries are concerning, there is no question that Kingsley Coman is a world-class winger and one of the best in the world at progressing and starting chances in the attack.

Coman was brilliant under Flick in the 2019/20 season, and his fading stock in Bavaria may end up benefiting Barcelona on the transfer market if they can snag him to a reasonable deal.

Barcelona’s biggest need is on the left wing, and Coman could be a familiar face to feed Lewandowski chances while chipping in with a few goals of his own.
