Erling Haaland and Phil Foden injury: Man City duo miss training ahead of Brighton clash

Manchester City's Norwegian striker #09 Erling Haaland (R) and Manchester City's English midfielder #47 Phil Foden (2nd R) warm up prior to the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second-leg football match between Manchester City and Real Madrid, at the Etihad Stadium, in Manchester, north-west England, on April 17, 2024.

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden missed Manchester City’s training session on Tuesday ahead of their Premier League clash with Brighton.

Haaland was absent for City’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in the FA Cup semi final on Saturday due to a muscular problem after being forced off in last week’s Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

Foden, meanwhile, played a full game at Wembley as Bernardo Silva’s late goal sealed the win for City to set up an FA Cup final against Manchester United next month.

City trained on Tuesday ahead of their trip to Brighton on Thursday evening but neither Haaland or Foden were part of the session.

However, John Stones was part of the group who trained after he was forced off at half time in City’s win over Chelsea at Wembley.

When asked about Haaland before City’s FA Cup clash against Chelsea on Saturday, Pep Guardiola replied: ‘He’s injured. I don’t think it’s much but he’s not able for today.’

Asked if Haaland will return for City’s game against Brighton next Thursday, Guardiola replied: ‘I don’t know.’

City are currently a point behind Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League table but have a game in hand.

Guardiola’s side could be four points behind both Arsenal and Liverpool by the time they play Brighton on Thursday if the Gunners beat Chelsea on Tuesday and Liverpool win their Merseyside derby against Everton on Wednesday.
