Liverpool target Ruben Amorim offers three-word reply after West Ham talks

Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP during the Liga Portugal Betclic match between Sporting CP and Vitoria Guimaraes at Estadio Jose Alvalade on April 21, 2024 in Lisbon, Portugal.

Liverpool and West Ham managerial target Ruben Amorim offered just three words to the media upon his arrival back in Portugal, after jetting to England for talks with the Hammers. The Sporting boss has been linked with jobs at Anfield and the London Stadium and his future remains up in the air after four successful years in the Portuguese capital.

Amorim flew to the English capital on Monday to sit down with West Ham, who are considering their options in what would be an ambitious attempt to replace David Moyes, with the Scot's contract up at the end of the season.

The 39-year-old Sporting boss had been instilled as the favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool after Xabi Alonso ruled himself out of the running, but The Athletic claimed that a move for Amorim was unlikely to be further considered by the Reds' hierarchy including Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes.

With two days off after Sporting's 3-0 win over Vitoria on Sunday, Amorim had time to fly to London to speak with West Ham and listen to their pitch. He is said to have spent six hours in England before returning to his native Portugal the same day.

Upon his arrival in Lisbon, Amorim was met by hoards of reporters to ask for his thoughts on the reported meeting with West Ham and links with Liverpool. However, he declined to offer his assessment and instead replied: "See you Saturday."

Amorim was referring to his pre-match press conference this week ahead of Sporting's top-of-the-table clash with Porto, as focus remains on his current team despite speculation elsewhere.

CNN Portugal claim that Amorim flew out to London on a private plane organised by West Ham's owners, accompanied by businessman Raul Costa, after Sporting's training session on Monday.

A decision on the next West Ham head coach is unlikely to made until the end of the season, with ex-Wolves boss Julen Lopetugui also linked with the post alongside compatriot Amorim.

With Amorim deemed out of the picture to replace Klopp, Liverpool could be set to turn their attention to other reported targets such as Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank and Arne Slot.
