After a year break from the circuit due to flooding, we are back at Imola. The 2024 Imola GP Qualifying Session kicked off under the sun with each car determined to get that pole position.
Q1: Alonso’s Nightmare but Hulkenberg’s Surprise
The green light signals the start of qualifying and the Mercedes was egar to get out on track. Lewis Hamilton set an initial disappointing time reaching the heights of 1:16.

The Redbull of Verstappen was quick to take its place up front with a time of 1:16:013. However, battles with the Mclaren’s of Piastri and Norris made a McLaren sandwich for Verstappen.
Logan Sargent and Fernando Alonso struggle to stay on track leaving them in the bottom five, five minutes before the end of the session.

For the first time since 2023 and 2024 the Haas of Hulkenberg tops the time sheet confirming his place in Q2. Swiftly after, Verstappen takes back his place up front.
Fernando Alonso failed to find pace and ended P20, followed closely by Kevin Magnussen. Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas of Kick Sauber placed P18 and P16 respectively with Logan Sargent slotting himself in between.
Q2: One Redbull’s Success turns another sour.
Max Verstappen kicks off Q2 in the 2024 Imola GP Qualifying by taking P1, followed closely by his teammate Perez in P2. Both McLarens are once again challenging for upfront positions with Piastri and Norris setting times mid 1:15:400.
Tsunoda puts in a quick flying lap placing him between the new leader Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. He leaves a 0.030 gap to Leclerc two minutes before the end of the session.
The Mercedes struggle with pace with Russell and Hamilton getting stuck in the elimination zone, placing P12 and P11.
The sole remaining Aston martin of Lance Stroll did not improve and remained in the bottom five, along with the two Alpines.
Sergio Perez attempts to secure a place in Q3 but with some oversteer, the car denies him that opportunity as he places P11.
Q2 eliminations: P11 Sergio Perez, P12 Esteban Ocon, P13 Lance Stroll, P14 Albon, P15 Pierre Gasly.
Q3: Verstappen takes pole, and RB shows strength
Verstappen, Norris and Piastri lead the start of Q3 with the leading competitive time of 1:14.869.
Charles Leclerc in an attempt to get pole places himself between the two McLaren’s at P3.
Russel and Hamilton proves the Mercedes to be under performing and places P6 and P8 respectively. meanwhile the RB has seemingly found pace with Tsunoda and Ricciardo placing P7 and P9 sandwiching Hamilton.
