His own race was marred by collisions, including a notable incident with reigning world champion Jake Dennis.
“A mess, just a complete mess,” Frijns expressed in a post-race interview. “It’s just really no longer enjoyable to race this.”
The Need for Systemic Change
When questioned about the challenges of navigating the tight streets of Monte Carlo, Frijns highlighted the inherent difficulty.
“Impossible, as you can see,” he stated, dismissing the notion that the new GEN3 cars were to blame for the chaos.
Instead, he pointed to the competitive dynamics, saying, “The next generation is simply this—if you’re good, you’re at the front; if you’re not, you’re at the back.” Despite the heightened chaos in Monaco, Frijns argued that the issues are not unique to the iconic street circuit.
“It has nothing to do with Monaco; it’s the same everywhere we go,” he clarified, emphasising that the issues are systemic within the Formula E series.
The Dutchman acknowledged the need for intervention from the series’ organisers but confessed uncertainty about the best course of action.
“I have no idea, the racing, more penalties, I don’t know what. It’s not normal, we simply must change something,” Frijns concluded, signalling a clear call for reform to address the recurrent issues plaguing the races.
His comments have sparked further discussions among teams, drivers, and fans about the future direction of Formula E and how it can evolve to ensure fairer, safer, and more enjoyable competition.
