The racing capital of the world hosts a once in a life time opportunity on April 8th, 2024. Indianapolis Motor Speedway is hosting the 2024 Solar Eclipse event presented by Purdue University. On Monday, April 8th, a total solar eclipse is passing through Central and North America. Indianapolis falls directly within the path of totality, where the moon falls directly in line with the sun. Indianapolis Motor Speedway is working with the Ntt Indycar Series, NASA and Purdue University to put on an all day event surrounding STEM, Space and Speed.

This solar spectacle includes a packed day of educational opportunities. Purdue University, NASA and IMS create a schedule to present a wide range of knowledge surrounding the IMS track, engineering, astronauts and more.

The full event schedule can be viewed here

At 1pm local time, the eagerly anticipated NASA live TV Broadcast commences. This broadcast showcasing the extraordinary solar eclipse courtesy of Purdue University. This specific broadcast is selected as one of only three official sites for NASA’s comprehensive coverage. In addition, team owner and three time Indianapolis 500 pole sitter, Ed Carpenter will grace the track with demo laps at the onset of the broadcast. This will take place just before the moon enters its mesmerizing path of totality. This presents an unparalleled opportunity to INDYCAR to captivate a new audience, shining a spotlight on both the sport and the track itself. Hopefully, reaching viewers who have yet to experience its thrill.

One can only hope the official broadcast can spike a new interest amongst viewers watching from the comfort of their own home. What about the spectators attending this event in person? Well, in a recent email sent from IMS, Doug Boles states that IMS will welcome about 50,000 visitors for this spectacular event. The kicker, approximately 75% of those attending, have never been to Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In additional to all of the science related activations and presentations at this event, IMS has crafted a fun INDYCAR filled day. These opportunities include a track tour, demo laps and an autograph session, all to make a positive and exciting first impression of IMS and The NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Drivers and the IMS team have the rare opportunity to introduce INDYCAR to nearly 35,000 attendees that have never been to IMS before.

Seizing the Moment: INDYCAR’s Cosmic Convergence

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES undoubtedly has boundless potential for growth. With this celestial phenomenon gracing this particular spot in North America, IMS finds itself presented with a rare and extraordinary opportunity. By Inviting both seasoned enthusiast and newcomers alike, the Speedway beckons fans to come together and witness this awe-inspiring solar event while diving into scientific presentations and inducing in exclusive INDYCAR experiences. Come rain or shine, INDYCAR fanatics are ready to celebrate the chance to expand the fanbase, drawing potential enthusiasts for every corner near and far.
