The weather played its part at the start of the Race as the grid followed the Safety car around the track for 3 whole Formation laps. This was to clear as much standing water as possible as the rain had been falling for over an hour before the event. As the race started the rain did slow and throughout the race actually stopped, giving the F2 drivers tricky conditions to navigate.

From the Start

Frederik Vesti started from reverse pole, made a strong rolling start. He quickly pulled away from Isack Hadjar, Pourchaire, and Bearman. Bearman executed a bold move around the outside of Becketts to overtake Enzo Fittipaldi.

Further down the field, Brad Benavides spun off when trying to avoid a slowing Ayumu Iwasa, following a collision with Clément Novalak. Benavides received a five-second penalty for causing the incident, and the Safety Car was deployed.

Once the Safety Car retreated on Lap 3, Vesti resumed his lead with another great start. He steadily increased his gap at the front. Bearman wasted no time overtaking Pourchaire and Hadjar in one lap, securing second place with a daring move at Turn 3.

Bearman’s progress however was hindered on Lap 6 when he spun at Club, allowing Hadjar to reclaim second place. Pourchaire also took advantage, executing a switchback manoeuvre at the same corner to regain third.

Meanwhile, Fittipaldi and Victor Martins were locked in a battle for sixth. They went side-by-side until the Rodin Carlin driver managed to make a clean move into Copse.

Improving Conditions

As track conditions improved, Doohan closed in on Bearman on Lap 11, setting the stage for a thrilling battle in the remaining laps.

At the front, Pourchaire used his better traction to snatch second place from Hadjar on Lap 12. He then began narrowing Vesti’s 8.1-second lead.

Doohan and Bearman continued their duel in the latter stages of the race. Doohan momentarily looked to have made the move but was forced onto the run-off at Stowe.

This allowed Bearman some breathing space, and he started closing in on Hadjar, who had fallen back from Pourchaire. Bearman made a dive up the inside at Copse on Lap 15, securing third place, with Doohan following suit one lap later.

Doohan and Bearman resumed their battle on Lap 17. Bearman, desperate to defend his position, locked up and ran into the gravel at Vale, dropping behind Doohan, Fittipaldi, and Hadjar.

No one could stop Vesti from claiming his fifth Formula 2 victory, cruising to a 13.4-second win. Pourchaire settled for second place, while Doohan; after a frustrating battle with Bearman completed the podium.

Post race Interviews

In the post race press conference Jack Doohan said that the racing “wasn’t what he would have done” intimating that he wasnt happy with some of the defensive driving performed by Bearman.

In the end Fittipaldi finished fourth, ahead of Hadjar in fifth and Bearman in sixth. Martins and Arthur Leclerc rounded out the top eight scorers, with Leclerc climbing from P11 on the grid.

“Just won the Sprint Race here in Silverstone, it’s a good recovery from P10 yesterday. Obviously, we started on pole today, so it was good to convert that pole into victory. It’s important points for the Championship, it gives us a lot of confidence for tomorrow where hopefully we can fight through the field starting from P10.”

Frederik Vesti

With an additional 10 points, Frederik Vesti now holds a 21-point lead over Théo Pourchaire, who sits in second place with 114 points compared to Vesti’s 135. The top five in the standings remain the same, with Ayumu Iwasa in third (101 points), Oliver Bearman in fourth (84 points), and Richard Verschoor in fifth (75 points).
