George Russell criticizes Max Verstappen’s remarks after the post-sprint race incident

In the aftermath of the sprint race, George Russell voiced his dissatisfaction with Max Verstappen’s comments towards him, stating that Verstappen “let himself down” with his choice of words.

The clash between Verstappen and Russell occurred on the first lap at Turn 2, leading to Verstappen being forced wide. Seizing the opportunity, Russell capitalized on the situation, overtaking Verstappen at the subsequent corner.

Despite suffering damage to his RB19 car, Verstappen managed to recover and ultimately finished ahead of Russell, securing third place in the race.

Following the conclusion of the race, Verstappen approached Russell to discuss the incident, engaging in a heated exchange where he referred to the Mercedes driver as a “dickhead.”

When questioned about his desire for an apology from Verstappen, Russell responded,

However, Russell expressed his disappointment with Verstappen’s behavior in the heat of the moment.

Acknowledging Verstappen’s status as a two-time champion and current championship leader, Russell mentioned, “It doesn’t bother me, but he probably lets himself down a little bit with those sorts of comments. Max is a super good guy, a great driver, and such words are unnecessary.”

Furthermore, Russell expressed surprise upon viewing the live broadcast footage, as he had not seen the images during his discussion with Verstappen.

“To be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed by how little everything was; I was expecting it to be more,” Russell stated.

He added, “Obviously, there was some contact, as is often the case on the grid during the first lap. So yeah, I was expecting a bit more.”
