Anamul Haque Replaces Litton Das in Asia Cup 2023

The Asia Cup 2023 has seen a change in the Bangladesh squad as Litton Das has been ruled out due to a viral fever. Unfortunately, Litton couldn't travel with the team to Sri Lanka and is yet to recover. To fill this gap, Anamul Haque has been drafted into the team, providing a like-for-like replacement of a top-order batsman who can also keep wickets.

Anamul

Anamul, aged 30, last appeared in an ODI for Bangladesh in December 2022 against India. He brings valuable experience to the squad, having played 44 ODIs for Bangladesh, amassing 1254 runs at an average of 30.58, including five half-centuries and three centuries. Throughout his career, he has predominantly batted as an opener or at No.3. Anamul will also serve as a backup wicketkeeper to Mushfiqur Rahim and is set to join the team later this week.

Minhajul Abedin, Chairman of the national selection panel, commented, "Anamul has been consistently performing in domestic Cricket, and he has been part of the Bangladesh Tigers program. His selection was always in our consideration."

Litton Das' absence could be a significant setback for Bangladesh, who are eager to clinch their first-ever Asia Cup title. Litton has been Bangladesh's highest run-scorer in ODIs since the beginning of 2022, accumulating 878 runs in 25 innings at an average of 41.80. During this period, he notched up seven half-centuries and a century, with a highest score of 136 against Afghanistan in February last year.

Bangladesh, who arrived in Sri Lanka on August 27, will compete in group B of the Asia Cup. Their campaign kicks off against Sri Lanka on August 31 in Pallekele, followed by a clash with Afghanistan on September 3 in Lahore.
