Half-centuries from Brandon King and Johnson Charles, followed by a disciplined performance with the ball helped West Indies clinch the three-match series against the UAE on Tuesday (June 6), with one match still remaining. Having posted a daunting 306 after opting to bat, West Indies restricted the UAE to 228/7 as Shai Hope secured his first series win as ODI captain.

King, fresh off a century in the opening game, played the anchor's role in the opening stand worth 129 while Charles blazed away to a 33-ball fifty. Charles collected 8 fours and three sixes in his 47-ball stay for 63 runs which ended with a miscued pull off Ali Naseer. King, who got to his half-century off 52 balls, fell to debutant Adhitya Shetty for a 70-ball 64 which included 4 fours and as many maximums.

West Indies lost wickets at regular intervals after the big opening stand but there were enough cameos as five of them scored 20 or more to lift their side past 300. Odean Smith's knock was especially important as the Caribbean side had slipped to 249/7 but batting at No.9, he struck a 24-ball 37 to help his team finish well.

The hosts did not begin the chase on the right note as they were reduced to 95/5 before the halfway stage of the second innings. Vriitya Aravind and Aryansh Sharma got off to promising starts but could not capitalise on it, with the top order batters mostly falling to loose shots.

Basil Hameed (49) and Ali Naseer (57) put on a partnership of 80 runs for the sixth wicket but it came at a rate of less than 70, leaving the UAE with a lot to do towards the end. They needed 109 in the last five overs but couldn't get anywhere close as West Indies registered a comfortable victory in their prep for the World Cup Qualifiers.

Brief scores: West Indies 306 in 49.5 overs (Brandon King 64, Johnson Charles 63; Zahoor Khan 3-44) beat UAE 228/7 in 50 overs (Ali Naseer 57, Basil Hameed 49; Roston Chase 2-49) by 78 runs.
