Market Report – Indian Premier League – Matchday 10, April 9, 2023

Gujarat were winning their match against Kolkata with ease before Rinku Singh did something unbelivable. Meanwhile, Rahul Triparhi’s dominting innings overpowered Shikhar Dhawan’s fighting knock in the 2nd match of the day. Hence, Hyderabad won their first match of the season by defeating Punjab. Read this blog to see the match details and Sportiqo’s market changes.

Match 13: Gujarat Titans vs. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders 207 for 7 (Venkatesh 83, Rinku 48) beat Gujrat Titans 204 for 4 (Shankar 63, Rashid 3/37) by 3 wickets.

Gujarat’s captain Rashid Khan won the toss and decided to bat first. Wriddhiman Saha got out early after scoring a run-a-ball 17. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan then put in 67 runs for the second wicket. Gill scored 39(31) while Sudharshan got 53(38). Both of them got out in quick succession as the score was 118 with 45 balls left in the innings. Vijay Shankar played a blinder of 63*(24) to power Gujarat to 204 for 4. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets to his name.

Kolkata’s openers returned to the pavilion in the first 4 overs of the chase. Then, a 100-run partnership between Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana(↑9.68%) tilted the game in KKR’s favour. Rana was dismissed for 45 off 29 while Venkatesh got out after thumping 83 off just 40. Rashid Khan had conceded 35 runs in his first 3 overs without picking a wicket. He came out to bowl the 17th over of the chase as Gujarat needed to defend 50 off the final 4 overs.

The leg-spinner bagged the wickets of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Shardul Thakur to pick a brilliant hat-trick. Kolkata lost all the momentum after that over and the game seemed out of their reach with 28 runs required of the final 5 balls. But Rinku Singh thrashed Yash Dayal for 5 consecutive sixes to pull off an extraordinary win. The Southpaw had scored only 8 runs from the first 14 balls he faced. But the last 7 innings of his innings produced 40 runs to give Kolkata an unbelievable win.

Match 14: Punjab Kings vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad 145 for 2 (Tripathi 74, Makrande 4/15) beat Punjab Kings 143 for 9 (Dhawan 99*(41.97%), Curran 22(6.28%)) by 8 wickets.

Hyderabad invited Punjab to bat first after winning the toss. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh on the first ball of the match. Macron Jansen joined the party and took a wicket in each of his first 2 overs. Punjab were 22 for 3 in the 4th over. Sam Curran(↑6.28%) and Shikhar Dhawan(↑41.97%) combined for a rapid 41-run partnership. But then they lost 6 more wickets for just 25 runs. PBKS were in a spot of bother at 9 for 88 after 15 overs.

It seemed as if the innings will be wrapped up shortly. But their skipper was in no mode to give up. Dhawan picked up 55 runs for the last wicket as Punjab played their full quota of 20 overs. Their #11, Mohit Rathee, played just 2 balls and scored 1 run in this partnership. Dhawan stayed unbeaten on 99(66), scoring 69% of his team’s runs. Hyderabad were asked to chase 144 runs to get their first win of the season.

Hyderabad’s top order also found it hard to score on their home ground. Harry Brook(↓10.11%) departed for 13(14) and Mayank Agarwal could only score 21(20). Hyderabad were struggling at 45 for 2 after 8.3 overs. The skipper Aiden Markram walked out to bat at that stage. He and Rahul Tripathi made batting look ridiculously easy on a tricky surface. Their unbeaten partnership of 100 runs came in only 52 deliveries and gave their team an 8-wicket win. Markram and Tripathi scored 37*(21) and 74*(48), respectively.
