Aaron LaMore, a 45-year-old tollway administrator and experienced, was riding in the car’s open hatchback on Nov. 6 when “he lost his balance, fell in reverse out of the car into the tarmac, and banged his head on the rear,” according to his brother-in-law, Ryan Talaga.

“They didn’t even get to the main home,” Talaga claimed, adding that the car was traveling at over 5 mph at the time. When help arrived, LaMore was able to “choose himself off” the ground and “get into the emergency car,” a family member wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to help his wife Erin and their daughter Mia.

According to the fundraiser, once he arrived at the hospital, his condition “rapidly” deteriorated. According to Patch, LaMore, who had multiple skull fractures, went into cardiac arrest while waiting to be transported to another hospital. “At the time, his injuries were severe,” Talaga told the site, adding that there was “irreversible damage.”

LaMore, a brilliant and generous organ donor, passed away on Veterans Day, leaving behind his wife of 16 years and their kid. “The College of Chicago staged a Hero’s Walk in his honor since he saved multiple lives that day with his gift,” according to a note on the GoFundMe website. “He will be remembered as a legend and champion till the end of time.” “This is the worst thing that could happen to my sister and niece, but knowing that he’s capable of saving lives gives them some peace,” Talaga told Fix.

LaMore’s family members set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of his daughter’s future schooling as well as other fees and medical bills. “Their weight is heavy, and we want to help ease the strain,” stated the post on the campaign, which has raised $36,313 as of publication. “It’ll be difficult, but you just have to take it one day at a time and do your best,” Talaga said when asked how the family was dealing.

LaMore’s funeral was held at Parkview Christian Church on Friday, November 18, at 10:30 a.m. According to Patch, the late veteran was buried at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
