Sebastian Vettel seems on the brink of re-entering the racing world.

The four-time world champion, having left Formula 1 at the culmination of the previous season, is rumoured to be weighing an invitation to race at the prestigious Le Mans 24 hour event in 2024.

This hints he might be on the track in one of the globe’s iconic motor races next year, possibly racing against his friend and protege Mick Schumacher, who is currently in negotiations with Alpine about the Renault-affiliated brand’s new hypercar venture.

Vettel, aged 36, is believed to be looking at the secondary LMP2 category, having reportedly got a proposition from the British team Jota, a Porsche customer.

“There’s potential for a test in the near future,” conveyed Auto Motor und Sport journalist Michael Schmidt, noting that the trial might be scheduled in Spain come early October.

Upon Schmidt questioning Vettel on this speculation, the German responded: “Nothing has been signed or decided yet, but I have it in the back of my mind.

“I still have time to decide.”

Vettel attended the Japanese GP at Suzuka the prior weekend for his ‘bee hotel’ project and confessed, “If at some point I come to the conclusion that it doesn’t work without racing anymore, then I will drive again.”

The German media outlet RTL conveyed that among Vettel’s probable teammates for Le Mans could be his fellow ex-F1 racers Robert Kubica and Kimi Raikkonen.

RTL reporter Felix Gorner remarked, “I think it’s very likely that he will see Vettel at Le Mans.

“He is an absolute history fan and loves traditional races like this,” he continued. “He’s always been interested in participating.

“Le Mans will also appeal to him from a sporting perspective. The forthcoming year will witness multiple major manufacturers getting involved, showcasing an incredible depth of talent.”
