2025 Ferrari Contract Discussions with Sainz on the Horizon

Frederic Vasseur, the Ferrari team boss, has stated that contract negotiations with Carlos Sainz are imminent.

Sainz, a Spaniard, like his teammate Charles Leclerc, is secured under contract through 2024’s end. However, unlike Leclerc, who hails from Monaco, Sainz has openly expressed a keen interest in sealing a new agreement as promptly as possible.

“We’re going to sit down with Carlos before the end of the season,” Vasseur declared to Auto Motor und Sport, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

After stepping in this year to fill Mattia Binotto’s role, Vasseur has also found challenges in catapulting Ferrari back to the summit of the charts.

The Frenchman is especially impressed by the absolute control that Red Bull is currently showing.

“They are simply perfect in every discipline, regardless of whether it’s the chassis, aerodynamics, engine, driver or strategy,” he praised, recognizing the factors that separate them from the rest. “And that’s what makes the difference.”

Perez Acknowledges Mental Strain of Competing Alongside Verstappen

Reports indicate that Vasseur has managed to secure Mercedes’ top engineer Loic Serra, but it is understood that he will be on gardening leave until 2025.

“Some (signings) are allowed to start work in early 2024, others in mid-2024, and still others not until early 2025,” he acknowledges, expressing the difficulty of the situation.

The long planning phase is something he finds particularly taxing, as well as the challenges tied to integrating people while staying within the cost cap.

His confidence in the existing team remains unshaken, despite the new acquisitions.

“There is no before and no after,” Vasseur stated firmly. “Ferrari doesn’t have to wait for the newcomers to get back on the road to success. That would be the wrong message.”

He also maintained faith in the current team, proclaiming, “I trust the squad we have.”

Though he did not dismiss the possibility of introducing a completely new chassis and gearbox for 2024, he refuted any claims that it would be an entirely “brand new concept.”

Vasseur concedes, “We have to make a step forward in every area,” reflecting the universal need for improvement.
