Haas F1 team has been delaying making decisions regarding the driver lineup for next season for a while now in an effort to give Schumacher as many chances as possible to justify his continued participation.

Mick Schumacher, at the United States Grand Prix explained what he needs to do, he said: “It’s not difficult.”

“I’m here to do my job, and I’m here to do it well. So that’s what my main focus is on and that’s everything I’m in control of.

“I’m just trying to do my best and that’s what I’m here for. It’s just a matter of trying to finish as high as possible and finish with as many points as possible each weekend. So that’s really the target right now.”

Lewis Hamilton is the only driver who can challenge Max Verstappen for the 2023 title, according to Anthony Davidson.

However, it seems that Schumacher hasn’t put in enough effort to merit a third season, as evidenced by Stoffel Vandoorne’s recent selection as Aston Martin’s backup driver.

Hulkenberg will likely join Haas for the 2023 season. Additionally, the team’s manager, Guenther Steiner, had already hinted at a decision for the upcoming season just a few days before in Mexico.

“In Abu Dhabi, we want to know who will be driving our car next year,” he said. “Then that driver can also complete the test after the finale.”

When asked about the rumours that he was planning yet another comeback, Hulkenberg did not exactly downplay them.

“There is still nothing concrete to report,” he told Austrian broadcaster ServusTV. “It’s not my decision at the end of the day either. I don’t make it.

There are still talks. I’m relatively optimistic, but we’ll be patient a little longer have to.”
