NEW YORK — In a display of unparalleled performance, Gunnar Henderson achieved extraordinary milestones during the first four innings of the game. The Baltimore Orioles faced off against Luis Severino and the New York Yankees, emerging victorious with a resounding 14-1 score. Henderson showcased his prowess by smashing two home runs, securing four hits, and amassing an impressive five runs batted in (RBI).

Launching the game with a spectacular leadoff home run, Henderson showcased his exceptional skills. The Baltimore Orioles proceeded to dominate the field in the third and fourth innings, as an astonishing total of 21 batters stepped up to the plate. With an onslaught of 11 hits, three walks, and one hit batter, they forged an overwhelming 13-0 lead.

The Baltimore Orioles had their best scoring game since they beat Boston 15-10 on August 19 of the previous year. The Orioles had an amazing 20 hits, their most since June 6, 2021, when they had 21 hits in an 18-5 win over Cleveland. Ryan O’Hearn made a big difference with three hits and four runs batted in (RBI). Cedric Mullins also helped the team win with a key two-run double. With this win, the Orioles won their second game in a row, giving them a four-game split with their opponents.

Luis Severino, who currently stands at a record of 1-4, endured a challenging outing as he surrendered seven runs and yielded 10 hits in a mere 2 2/3 innings. As a result, his earned run average (ERA) now stands at 7.38, accompanied by a formidable .315 opponents’ batting average and a staggering .560 slugging percentage. Highlighting the struggles of his fastball, Severino managed to generate only three swings and misses out of the 23 fastballs he threw.

In a disheartening turn of events, Luis Severino has relinquished a total of 37 runs in his past seven games, marking the most challenging stretch for a Yankees pitcher since CC Sabathia allowed 39 runs in seven games between July 14 and August 18, 2013. This recent performance underscores the struggles Severino has faced on the mound, posing significant challenges for the Yankees’ pitching staff.

Kyle Bradish, with a record of 5-4, demonstrated his mastery on the mound by conceding a mere three hits across a span of six innings.

Billy McKinney proved to be the catalyst for New York’s lone run in the ninth inning, delivering a remarkable two-out, two-strike RBI single. This pivotal hit not only energized the team but also ensured they avoided being shut out.

With the exception of rookie Colton Cowser, who was playing in his second major league game, every starter for the Baltimore Orioles recorded a hit. Their collective effort resulted in an impressive total of 14 runs against the New York Yankees, marking the highest run tally the Orioles have achieved in a game against the Yankees since their 17-9 victory on September 27, 2005.

As Cedric Mullins grounded out, concluding a five-run fourth inning, a collective Bronx cheer resonated from the crowd of 39,766. The fans momentarily halted their wave during the fifth inning and expressed their dissatisfaction with a chorus of boos when catcher Jose Trevino and first baseman DJ LeMahieu failed to catch a pop-up hit by Ramón Urias, allowing it to fall untouched behind them.

Making his fourth pitching appearance of the season, Isiah Kiner-Falefa showcased his versatility on the mound. With remarkable precision, he conceded just one hit during a scoreless inning, further lowering his earned run average (ERA) to an impressive 2.25. Kiner-Falefa’s reliable performance exemplifies his ability to excel in multiple facets of the game.
