While the specific reasons behind Jimmy Cordero’s Suspension remain undisclosed, he has acknowledged the suspension and accepted the consequence, which entails being banned for the remainder of the season, encompassing 76 games along with any potential playoff games for the Yankees.

Jimmy Cordero’s 76-game suspension ranks as the eighth longest in the history of MLB’s Domestic Violence Policy and the second most for a Yankees player. It falls just behind Domingo German‘s 81-game suspension, indicating the severity of the penalty imposed.

Cordero becomes the third Yankees player to be suspended under MLB’s domestic violence policy. Aroldis Chapman was the first to be penalized back in 2016, receiving a 30-game ban for an incident in 2015 involving allegations of choking his girlfriend and firing gunshots into his garage ceiling.

Trevor Bauer, 194 games, April 2022

Bauer faced an initial suspension in April, which amounted to a lengthy 324 games, equivalent to two complete regular seasons. The suspension was a result of allegations involving instances of punching and choking a woman during two separate sexual encounters.

Following his suspension, the Dodgers’ pitcher was reinstated by MLB in December and the length of his suspension was reduced to 194 games. This revised penalty remains the most extensive ban imposed under the league’s domestic violence policy.

He was designated and released. For the 2023 season, Bauer secured a contract with the Yokohama DeNA Baystars in Japan.

Sam Dyson, 162 games, March 2021

Dyson faced a suspension in March 2021 that led to him being sidelined for the entire season. The suspension followed allegations made by his former girlfriend, Alexis Blackburn, accusing him of engaging in physical abuse towards her.

At the time of his suspension, Dyson was a free agent and had not pitched in the major leagues since his tenure with the Twins in 2019. He is now in the Mexican Laegue.

Jose Torres, 100 games, December 2017

In December 2017, Torres faced arrest on domestic violence charges following an alleged incident that took place at a residence he shared with a woman. He was accused of brandishing a firearm during the incident.

In June 2018, the reliever received a 100-game suspension, which has kept him out of the major leagues ever since. The Padres designated him and released him. He doesn’t play in the MLB.

Carlos Martinez, 85 games, September 2022

Martinez, who had spent nine years with the Cardinals and earned two All-Star selections during that time, was handed an 85-game suspension in September 2022. The suspension came as a result of an undisclosed violation of the league’s policy.

In May 2022, the starting pitcher, who had then been released by the Red Sox, received an 80-game suspension due to a violation of the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

He has been absent from major league pitching since the 2021 season.

Odubel Herrera, 85 games, June 2029

In June of that year, Herrera faced a suspension for the remainder of the 2019 season following his arrest on suspicion of simple assault in the previous month.

The outfielder was accused of engaging in physical abuse against his girlfriend at the Golden Nugget casino in Atlantic City. His girlfriend chose not to pursue legal action against him.

Herrera, who was named an All-Star in 2016, stayed with the Phillies until last season and recently joined the Kansas City Monarchs, an independent baseball team.

Hector Olivera, 82 games, May 2016

The incident took place during a Braves series against the Nationals in April 2016 when the third baseman/outfielder was arrested for an alleged assault on a woman at a hotel in Arlington, Virginia.

The following month, Olivera received a suspension of 82 games as a result of the incident.

Later in that season, he was traded to the Padres, but he never made another appearance in Major League Baseball.

Domingo German, 81 games, January 2020

In January 2020, the right-handed pitcher for the Yankees was suspended for 81 games following an alleged violent incident involving Maria Vega, the mother of his children, that occurred on September 16, 2019.

Eighteen games of the suspension were fulfilled during the conclusion of the 2019 season.

German has continued to be a regular member of the Yankees’ starting rotation and achieved a flawless performance by pitching a perfect game on June 28th.

Jimmy Cordero received suspension for 76 games and postseason

Cordero, in his return to the majors after playing with the White Sox in 2020, posted a 3.86 ERA across 31 games this season.
