Although he has allowed a home run in each of his last three starts, Domingo German has been effective in covering 19 innings during that stretch, giving up just six runs. With a respectable 3.49 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, and a solid 64:21 K: BB ratio across 67 innings and 12 starts this season, the right-hander has established himself as a dependable pitcher capable of eating up innings. Domingo German is slated for a rematch against the Red Sox in Boston in the upcoming week.

The Yankees starter, delivered an impressive performance, limiting the Red Sox to just one earned run. Over the course of six innings, Domingo German allowed six hits, issued two walks, and recorded five strikeouts, throwing a total of 86 pitches. The trio of Wandy Peralta, Tommy Kahnle, and Clay Holmes then took over, effectively shutting down the Boston offense and preventing them from scoring for the remainder of the game.

Boone acknowledged Domingo German’s performance, noting that he managed the game well and delivered another solid outing. Although he didn’t exhibit the same level of dominance as his previous start against the Dodgers, where he allowed only one earned run in 6.2 innings, the Red Sox were able to make solid contact against him. However, Domingo German made key pitches in critical moments and received support from the defense. Overall, it was another strong showing in what has been an impressive season for Domingo.

A confident starter

When asked about his recent success, Domingo German credits his improved performance to gaining confidence through consistent opportunities on the field. Additionally, the starter attributes part of his progress to adjustments he made during the offseason, emphasizing the importance of fine-tuning his routine.

Domingo German explained that his recent success is a result of the accumulated experience he has gained while competing at the Major League level. He emphasized the significance of his offseason preparations, stating that he focused on ensuring he was in optimal physical condition. Domingo German believes that when he puts himself in such a favorable position, it instills him with the confidence necessary to consistently execute pitches with precision.

In the third inning, Jake Bauers showcased his defensive prowess by leaping at the left-field wall to make a crucial catch, denying the Red Sox an opportunity to score another run.

Domingo German remained mostly untouchable throughout the game, with the exception of the sixth inning when Devers launched his home run. Apart from that, he expertly navigated through the lineup, allowing only six hits and two walks while striking out five, showcasing his consistent dominance during this stretch.

Despite encountering some challenges, the 30-year-old right-hander consistently found a way to navigate out of trouble. One such instance occurred in the second inning, when the Red Sox had runners positioned on second and third base, only for Domingo German to extinguish the threat by inducing a line-out from Kiké Hernandez.

Domingo German laid the ground for the bullpen

The Yankees’ reliance on Domingo German becomes more pronounced in the absence of Aaron Judge, as the slender 6-foot-2, 181-pound pitcher shoulders a greater burden for the team’s success.

The Yankees‘ offense didn’t have to do much as Domingo German single-handedly sealed the victory for his team. He showcased his resilience by delivering his strongest performance in critical situations, allowing only one run over six innings. This impressive outing adds to his recent trend of allowing two or fewer runs in six of his last seven starts, resulting in a significant drop in his ERA from 5.54 in April to 3.49.

Following Domingo German’s departure, Wandy Peralta assumed the mound with a slim one-run advantage in the seventh inning and effectively protected it.

In a tense showdown, the left-handed pitcher succumbed to Masataka Yoshida after a grueling 14-pitch battle, resulting in a two-out walk. He then proceeded to walk Justin Turner, intensifying the situation on the field. This prompted a crucial encounter with the Yankees’ nemesis, Rafael Devers, and a visit to the mound from bullpen coach Mike Harkey. It’s worth noting that pitching coach Matt Blake is currently absent from the team due to personal reasons following the passing of his mother-in-law.

Showing strength, Peralta gathered his focus and coerced Devers into a ground out, despite the fact that Devers had already hit a home run earlier in the game and came close to hitting another.

With his initial pitch in the eighth inning, Kahnle accidentally hit Adam Duvall but swiftly prevented him from advancing to second base. As for Holmes, who has been exceptional in his last 17 games with only one run surrendered, he encountered a situation where the tying run was within reach. However, he exhibited composure and struck out Yoshida before inducing a ground out from Justin Turner, securing his eighth save of the season.
