The mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir, has opened up about his one and only regret while leading the team. Recalling his time at KKR, Gambhir stated that his main regret was not being able to get the most out of Suryakumar Yadav. Gambhir led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.
 
From 2014 to 2017, Suryakumar was the designated finisher for KKR. A number of people contended that the batter deserved to be brought up in the batting order after Suryakumar displayed flashes of excellence. Because of the crowded batting lineup, Suryakumar was unable to take advantage of the opportunity and was requested to be discharged by the team.
After returning to MI in 2018, Suryakumar rose to prominence as one of the league’s top hitters.
 
In his interaction with Sportskeeda Gautam Gambhir, he said, “It is the responsibility of a leader to recognize and showcase their greatest potential. Suryakumar Yadav’s underutilized potential was never fully realized by the team or by myself throughout my seven years as captain.”
 
“And combinations were the key to the cause. At No. 3, you can only play one person. As a leader, you also need to consider the other ten players in the starting lineup. Although he was just as excellent at No. 7, he would have been far more productive at No. 3, he continued.”
 
After playing for MI, Suryakumar Yadav made his debut with India. The batsman experienced a quick ascent to prominence in the cricket world, taking the #1 spot on the ICC’s ranking of the best T20I batters. In 2023, Suryakumar led the Indian squad and performed admirably. Surya will be a big part of the Indian team’s chances for the 2024 T20 World Cup. India is favored to win the T20 World Cup since they have assembled an experienced team.
