CSK Coach’s Bold Statement: Jadeja’s ‘Obstructing The Field’ Dismissal

On Sunday, Michael Hussey, the batting coach for the Chennai Super Kings, expressed his opinion that Ravindra Jadeja’s dismissal for obstruction of the field might have gone either way.

Due to a misunderstanding with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad during their chase against the Rajasthan Royals, Jadeja was declared out for impeding the field, making him the third batter in IPL history to receive this punishment. When the all-rounder was halfway down the pitch and Jadeja refused to go for a second run, the third man threw the ball to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who directed it towards the bowler’s end. After Jadeja was hit by the throw, RR protested, and the third umpire was persuaded that Jadeja was aware of the ball’s direction.

In his post-match presentation, Michael Hussey said, “I didn’t look closely at it. He did try to turn around, so he changed his angle a little bit. But he didn’t change his angle while running straight.”

Hussey further added, “I am able to view both sides of the issue. I can appreciate the umpire’s decision-making process. Maybe it was a fair call, since the rule states that you cannot move your line.”
