Ruturaj Gaikwad’s growth as the team’s new captain, according to former Australia batter and current CSK hitting coach Michael Hussey, is largely due to the presence and engagement of the seasoned MS Dhoni. Ruturaj led the five-time IPL champion CSK to an inconsistent season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after taking over as captain from Dhoni. According to Hussey, Ruturaj’s ability to transition between captaincy and batting this season has improved since he has head coach Stephen Fleming and other knowledgeable individuals at his side for ongoing guidance.

During the post-match press conference, Hussey expressed his opinion on how Dhoni and Fleming’s presence in CSK has helped Ruturaj become a much more mature character.

“Ruturaj has been an excellent captain, in my opinion. He also has a very collected approach regarding where he wishes to go. Luckily, he’s got brilliant minds working with him early in the game. It’s evident that MS Dhoni is still there, supporting him in the background. Fleming is present as well. He can bounce ideas off of brilliant minds. Ruturaj can only continue to improve,”Hussey remarked.

We observed from his play today that he already had a keen sense of the game and a very good cricket brain.
