On Sunday, May 12, Chennai Super Kings defeated Rajasthan Royals by five wickets, a huge victory that increased their chances of qualifying for the IPL 2024 playoffs. At MA Chidambaram Stadium, the defending champions easily overcame a 142-run target in their final league-stage home encounter.

Sanju Samson, the captain, decided to bat first, but the Rajasthan batsmen were unable to muster many huge runs and were limited to their lowest first-inning total of the year. Even though Rajasthan’s bowlers played admirably and kept the score down, it was never enough.

The traveling team’s top bowler was Ravichandran Ashwin, who took two significant wickets for 35. In the 14th over, Ashwin claimed his second wicket of the match, Shivam Dube, writing his name into history. At MA Chidambaram Stadium, he became the first-ever bowler to record 50 IPL wickets.The seasoned spinner took 90 wickets for Chennai Super Kings throughout his first eight years in the IPL.

In his 205 IPL innings, Ashwin has claimed 178 wickets, 50 of which have come at Chennai’s storied stadium. In IPL history, Ashwin is the only bowler to have taken 50 or more wickets at a location.
