Team India has already announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup squad slated to happen in the USA and West Indies. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that it was so difficult to pick certain players who have been exceptional with their performances.

The selection meeting won’t be the only occasion when the Indian team management faces challenges in choosing the optimal combination to secure any ICC trophy.

As the tournament approaches close, head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma will have their discussion to pick the right combination. They will also think upon the opening slot.

Apart from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the other two opening options for the team. Meanwhile, the former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has some other thoughts regarding the opening pair of team India.

He suggested that young Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli should open the innings for India in the T20 World Cup. He also suggested that captain Rohit Sharma should bat at number four.

“If you have to make a change in that combination, I would be very happy if you would tell me if I could open with Kohli and Jaiswal, I would have said absolutely yes, Hayden said on Star Sports.”

Hayden feels that Kohli can utilise the powerplay overs at its best and once the field restriction gets over power hitters can come and lift the game for India.

“Then I would slot Suryakumar Yadav at 3 and Rohit at No.4. And that top four, in my opinion, is the right combination. The reason I say that is Virat is a master of the first six. And once the power hitting comes into play, there are other great options including Rohit. Look at his figures at No. 4, they are superb. Those are better than his opening numbers,” Hayden said.
