“You didn’t prepare anyone to bowl…”: Mohammad Amir Questions Pakistan’s Selection Policies After Humiliating Loss Against India In World Cup 2023

Following Pakistan’s disappointing seven-wicket defeat to India in the World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, former pacer Mohammad Amir has raised critical questions regarding the team’s selection policies.

One of the most significant issues raised by Mohammad Amir is the inclusion of Hasan Ali as a replacement for the injured Naseem Shah. This decision, according to Amir, seemed abrupt and questionable, as Hasan Ali was not originally part of the World Cup plans.

Amir pointed out that Hasan Ali was in the process of recovering from an injury and was not actively participating in matches. The sudden inclusion of a player who had yet to be actively involved raised concerns about his match readiness.

“Since we are talking about the Pakistan team, let me tell you where the problem is. Our preparations were wrong. Hasan Ali came into the World Cup after Naseem Shah got injured. Hasan Ali was not even in their plans. He was injured and not even playing,” said Amir.

Amir also voiced his concerns regarding the treatment of Mohammad Wasim Jr., who had been part of the team’s preparations for three years. Despite his long-term association with the team, Wasim Jr. played only one game and has since been benched.

Amir expressed confusion over the decision to bring in a freshly inducted player like Hasan Ali to bowl crucial overs while sidelining a regular member like Mohammad Wasim Jr. The selection policies seemed inconsistent and raised questions about the preparation and strategy.

“The one we were carrying for three years, Mohammad Wasim Jr, plays one match and sits out for the next two. He is still with the team but is on the bench. And the one who came in as a replacement is bowling for Pakistan. You didn’t prepare someone to bowl in the new ball, and who has come from outside is playing,” added the former cricketer.

As of now, Pakistan stands fourth in the World Cup points table. The team faces the challenge of regaining its momentum and addressing the selection issues in the upcoming matches.

Pakistan’s next match is against Australia on October 20 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This game will be crucial for Pakistan as they aim to bounce back from the recent defeat and solidify their position in the tournament.
