Indian Captain Rohit Sharma has given an update regarding the health of star opener Shubman Gill, who has apparently tested positive for dengue fever. The skipper mentioned that although Gill is currently feeling unwell, there hasn’t been a confirmed decision to exclude him from their inaugural match against Australia in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.

Gill’s performance in 2023 has been exceptional, particularly in ODIs, where he has amassed an impressive 1230 runs including an astonishing five centuries. His absence could pose a significant setback for the Indian cricket team in the ODI World Cup.

Rohit Sharma has talked about the importance of Shubman Gill’s proper recovery and is cautious about rushing him back into action.

“Gill is not feeling well, giving him every chance to see how he feels. Not ruled out yet. Shubman Gill is sick, I feel for him. I want him to be well. As a human being first, not as captain. He is a young boy, has a fit body and he will recover.”

Shubman Gill’s participation in the first game remains uncertain, Rohit Sharma believes that the atmosphere within the Indian team is extremely positive. He sees this as a golden opportunity for the Men in Blue to win the World Cup.

He stated, “The mood in the camp is very good. As it is going to be before the start of every tournament. Quite confident skill-wise. Looking forward to the game.”
