A piece of bad news is coming out for the Indian Cricket Fans. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended the captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team Harmanpreet Kaur for two matches. It happened due to her angry outburst during the third and last ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

On July 24th, 2023, during the match against Bangladesh in Dhaka, Harmanpreet Kaur showed her frustration for an umpiring decision where she forcefully hit her bat on the stumps and made protesting gestures towards the umpire, Tanvir Ahmed. This incident led to the ICC and they imposed a two-match ban on her as a consequence of her actions.

According to a statement released by ICC, the highest fraternity of cricket has imposed a two-match ban on Indian stars for breaching the code of conduct.

Harmanpreet Kaur was found to have violated article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.”

As it was level 1 offence in the eye of ICC, she was asked for a fine of 25% of her match fee. This came under the “public criticism in relation to an incident occurring in an international match where she criticised the umpire during the presentation ceremony.

Harmanpreet Kaur reacted strongly to being caught at slip by Umpire Tanvir Ahmed during the match. In her frustration, she smashed the stumps with her bat and appeared to show her anger to the umpire. Furthermore, she made a gesture in the direction of the crowd. After the match, during the post-match ceremony, she criticised the umpiring standard and called it “pathetic”.
