ENVE CUSTOM ROAD BICYCLE
| This weeks “Bicycle of the Week” is a custom built Enve road bicycle. Enve decided to turn the tables and go from a well-known wheel manufacturer to a custom bicycle brand. Along with the these new custom bikes, they will continue to build their popular wheels and components in their Ogden, Utah manufacturing plant. |
TWO ENVE CUSTOM MODELS
The custom road comes in two different models, the Race and the All Road. The Race has a shorter wheelbase which emphasizes quick handling and agility. The Race is designed for high speed aggressive riding and racing. Most of the components are manufactured by Enve. However, Enve did parterned up with various companies which we will get into later in this article. This custom frame is actually tuned for the tires it rides on. The tire sizes it performs the best on are anywhere from 25mm to 31mm. However, t will accept a tire size up to 35mm.
THE ENVE ALL ROAD STABILITY: AND CONTROL
The All Road has a less aggressive design and is more stable and easier to control than the Race. These riding attributes are the results of the longer wheelbase and custom fork angles. This model also comes with custom sized components and the Enve branded tires. The All Race was setup for 29mm to 35mm tires with the later being the max size the frame can accomodate. This model will give you a much smoother ride and is comfortable for longer endurance rides.
The custom Enve bicycle comes with a one-piece SES AR handlebar/stem that is customize to your specifications. The brake lines and wires are internally routed through this bar/stem combination giving this bike one of the cleanest looks on the market. Enve collaborated with Chris King and developed the AeroSet internally routed headset.
Enve’s proprietary seat mast smooths out the ride and reduces weight while providing 35mm of height adjustment. The seat tube is also built to contain the Shimano Di2 battery. Enve teamed up with with various companies to offer up some quality components. These companies include Tufo for the tires, Selle Italia for their branded saddle and K-Edge for the computer mount.
What is most unique for Enve Bicycles is that they were first a wheel manufacturer. Since aerodynamics plays a significant roll in wheel design this gave the company an edge in designing a fast and agile bicycle. When ordering your bike you have a choice of 36 different colors and 4 different paint schemes. They even send you a rendering of how your bike will look with the components, wheels and paint you selected.
