Scoring a Premier League hat-trick is a special achievement for any player. Doing it for three different clubs is even better.

Just five players in the Premier League’s entire history have scored a treble for three different clubs, an exclusive group of great goalscorers who have collected their own unique hat-trick.

The Premier League players to have scored a hat-trick for three different clubs:

Teddy Sheringham (Tottenham, Manchester United and Portsmouth)

Teddy Sheringham won the Premier League Golden Boot during the division’s inaugural campaign, a season which saw the forward leave Nottingham Forest for Tottenham during the opening weeks of the season.

Sheringham scored 97 league goals across two spells in north London, a period sandwiched between a successful spell at Manchester United. He won three league titles, the FA Cup and Champions League at Old Trafford and was named as the PFA Player of the Year in 2000/01.

Sheringham – who scored four Premier League hat-tricks – also holds the record as the oldest player to score a treble in the division after claiming the match ball for Portsmouth against Bolton in 2003, aged 37 years and 146 days.

90s Hitmen: Teddy Sheringham, a forward of enduring excellence

Les Ferdinand (Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle United and Tottenham)

Les Ferdinand scored 149 goals during a long career in the Premier League, with the former England international one of the most prolific hitmen in the division during the nineties.

He became the first player in the division’s history to score back-to-back trebles after claiming match balls for Queens Park Rangers against Nottingham Forest and Everton in 1993.

Ferdinand scored 60 league goals across three seasons at QPR to earn a £6m move to Newcastle, as the Magpies sought a replacement for the Manchester United-bound Andy Cole.

Ferdinand was named as the PFA Player of the Year after scoring 25 goals during his debut campaign at St James’ Park, but spent just two seasons with the club before signing for Spurs. He scored Premier League hat-tricks with each club and later had spells with West Ham, Leicester and Bolton.

Kevin Campbell (Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Everton)

Kevin Campbell came through the academy set-up at Arsenal and scored 60 goals for the Gunners in all competitions, including a Premier League hat-trick against Ipswich in 1993/94.

That season proved to be the best of Campbell’s time in north London as Arsenal won the European Cup Winners’ Cup, but he departed in search of regular first-team football for Nottingham Forest in 1997.

He moved to Turkey with Trabzonspor after Forest’s relegation from the top division, but returned to sign on loan for Everton in 1998/99. Nine goals in his first eight games helped save the Toffees from relegation and Campbell went on to spend seven seasons with the club. He is Everton’s fifth-highest scorer in the Premier League era.

Nicolas Anelka (Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea)

Nicolas Anelka’s career was one of nomadic success as the French forward shone for some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

A teenage sensation at Arsenal, he won a Premier League and FA Cup double with the Gunners in 1997/98, before being named as the PFA Young Player of the Year after a 19-goal campaign the following year.

Anelka moved on to Real Madrid in a big-money deal and then bounced around a succession of clubs, featuring for Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Manchester City, Fenerbahce and Bolton before a more settled spell at Chelsea.

He scored 59 goals in 184 appearances for Chelsea and won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2008/09.

Noughties Nines: Nicolas Anelka – Sullen and spectacular

Yakubu (Blackburn, Everton and Portsmouth)

Yakubu is the fourth-highest scoring African footballer in Premier League history after hitting 96 goals in England’s top division.

The Nigerian impressed after signing for Portsmouth from Maccabi Haifa and scored 35 league goals in two-and-a-half seasons on the south coast, including a four-goal Premier League haul against Middlesbrough.

Suitably impressed, Middlesbrough signed the forward and he had successful spells with the Teesiders, Everton and Blackburn Rovers during his time in the division.
