Man United hero sends defiant message after dramatic Brentford win

Scott McTominay says that Manchester United are a team of “fighters” after coming from behind to beat Brentford at the death.

The hosts seemed destined for their fifth Premier League defeat of the season when they went behind to a Mathias Jensen goal in the 26th minute of Saturday’s encounter at Old Trafford/

Man United struggled to break down the Bees, but Ten Hag’s decision to throw on McTominay changed the complexion of the tie entirely, as the Scot equalised in injury time before finding a winner in the 97th minute.

“That might be one of my favourite moments on a football pitch,” the midfielder told Premier League Productions. “Two goals at the death was incredible, but I am just happy to be able to contribute and show people that I can do it.”

McTominay called it a “massive” win for the team, which has been heavily criticised after a poor start to the campaign.

“Everyone knows we are in a difficult period at the minute, but we have fighters in the group that want to keep going right until the end. It could have been anyone on that pitch scoring the two goals. Really pleased and hopefully we can build on that from here,” he said.

“Sometimes we feel like we are in our own bubble with people outside only saying negative things, but we just have to block that out and be better after the international break.”

On his first goal, McTominay said: “When the ball dropped to me it was at an awwkard height and I didn’t think I could get my leg there, control it and score.

“As I said we wanted to get into their box more as the game went on. But they are a really good team, defended well, and are dangerous on the counter attack. Eventually we got the goals.”

The 26-year-old added that he had “no nerves” for the winning goal. “Just never give up no matter the situation. At this football club it is demanded that you never throw the towel in, for me I have been brought up here since I was five, I know that better than anyone.”
