Premier League Team of the Week – Matchday Six

Here is our Premier League team of the week from matchday six of the season.

GK: Sam Johnstone – Crystal Palace

Roy Hodgson has Sam Johnstone to thank for ensuring Crystal Palace didn’t fall to his former Fulham. The Cottagers are from the most dangerous team in attack this season, but the former Man United goalkeeper’s saves kept them at bay – and likely keeps him in the starting lineup with Dean Henderson waiting in the wings.

RB: Kieran Trippier – Newcastle United

A hat-trick of assists made Kieran Trippier the standout performer in a huge win for Newcastle, as they beat Sheffield United 8-0.

CB: Sven Botman – Newcastle United

One of those assists landed on the head of Sven Botman, who scored his first goal of the season. The Dutchman also helped the side keep a clean sheet as they romped to victory.

CB: James Tarkowski – Everton

Everton finally picked up their first win of the campaign, thanks in no small part to the performance of James Tarkowski. The centre-back chipped in with a goal from a well-designed set piece against his former club, Brentford.

LB: Pervis Estupinan – Brighton

This weekend’s win over Bournemouth was actually one of Pervis Estupinan’s quieter games, but the Ecuadorian left-back added another assist to add to his collection and outperformed better than his peers yet again.

CM: Bruno Guimarães – Newcastle United

Fresh off the back of a reported new deal, Bruno Guimarães put in a typically polished performance. The Blades offered scant opposition in truth, but the Brazilian will be no less happy to come away with an assist.

CM: James Maddison – Spurs

Two assists from James Maddison helped Tottenham clinch a big point away to Arsenal. The England midfielder is embracing the responsibility handed to him by Ange Postecoglou.

CM: Bruno Fernandes – Man Utd

Manchester United were rotten all over the pitch against Burnley on Saturday night, but Bruno Fernandes single handedly pulled them out of the fire to secure a much-needed win for the Red Devils. And he did so in some style.

RW: Bukayo Saka – Arsenal

Arsenal won’t be happy with the end result, but the opening 45 minutes of their draw with Tottenham showcased the very best of Bukayo Saka. He tormented Destiny Udogie during that period and looked like he could have picked the opposition off at will. He ended up with an unofficial assist for Cristian Romero’s own goal and an actual goal of his own, while he also created four chances for his teammates.

CF: Son Heung-min – Spurs

After years of being the no.2 to Harry Kane, Son Heung-min is shining out on his own as Tottenham’s centre-forward. Two perfectly place finishes against the Gunners showed he has the chops for the role.

LW: Kaoru Mitoma – Brighton

Roberto De Zerbi only gave Kaoru Mitoma 45 minutes and change against Bournemouth, but it was more than enough for the Japanese winger to show his stuff. The 26-year-old scored a brace as the Seagulls came from behind to win 3-1.
