Premier League Awards: Richarlison’s rescue act, Crouch’s comical slip

Our weekly Premier League awards honour the best – and worst – of the football action from the weekend.

It was another weekend of Premier League football to feast upon, with our weekly accolades celebrating a stunning late show from Spurs against Sheffield United, a thumping thunderbastard from Aston Villa’s teenage talent, and a comical cock-up from one of football’s best loved pundits.

Premier League Award from Matchday Five:

Moment of the Week

Tottenham left it late to rescue a win against Sheffield United in north London, as Spurs scored twice in stoppage time to turn defeat into victory.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have earned plenty of plaudits for their football across the season’s opening weeks, but the Australian required resilience from his team this time around as Spurs snatched three points.

Having trailed until the 98th minute of the game, the turnaround was the latest winning comeback in Premier League history as goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevki secured a dramatic win.

Cue limbs.

Player of the Week

Richarlison made an honest admission this week that he would seek “psychological help” after a “turbulent time” off the pitch in recent months, with the forward keen to find support for the off field issues which have impacted his form.

The Brazil international had scored just once in 31 league appearances for Spurs before this weekend, but picked the perfect time to make a decisive contribution as the north Londons salvaged a result against Sheffield United.

On as a substitute, the forward headed home Ivan Perisic’s corner for what appeared a last-gasp equaliser, only to then tee up Dejan Kulusevki for a winner just moments later as Spurs stole a stoppage-time win.

Goal of the Week

Aston Villa were another team who came alive late on to secure a win this weekend, beating Crystal Palace 3-1 with all three goals scored after the 87th minute.

Villa’s equaliser came in thunderous fashion as Jhon Duran came off the bench to blast home a leveller. The Colombian forward chested down Lucas Digne’s cross before unleashing an unstoppable effort past Sam Johnstone.

There’s plenty of excitement surrounding the 19-year-old talent at Villa Park.

Miss of the Week

Matheus Cunha might have missed a sitter in Wolves’ loss to Liverpool, but this was pure comedy gold in TNT Sports’ pre-game build up.

Save of the Week

Manchester City are five from five in the Premier League this season, but the champions had to dig deep to earn three points at West Ham.

After Jeremy Doku had cancelled out James Ward-Prowse’s opener for West Ham, City needed Ederson at his best to stop them from falling behind a second time.

The Brazilian’s brilliant save from Kurt Zouma’s header was crucial, keeping the score level before goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland ensured all three points would be returning to the Etihad.

It’s been a strong start from the champions.

Stat of the Week

There were more cards on show than the Moonpig sorting office in the Premier League on Saturday, with a record number shown from the match officials.

The 44 yellow cards surpassed the previous record of 43, set more than 25 years ago.
