Six unforgettable Premier League assists

Goals might grab the headlines but sometimes assists can be just as impressive, with the Premier League archives packed full of unforgettable assists.

From stunning solo runs to penetrative passes that dismantle defences instantly, there’s a whole back catalogue of creative genius from past Premier League seasons.

Choosing a shortlist of our favourites was no easy task, but we’ve picked out some of the very best Premier League Assists.

Six unforgettable Premier League assists:

Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov had a habit of making football look effortless.

The Bulgarian could quite easily have taken to Premier League pitches in his slippers such was the comfort he had when in possession, boasting a velvet first touch and an ability to leave defenders dumfounded.

Berbatov’s brilliance on the byline provided Cristiano Ronaldo with perhaps the easiest goal of his entire Premier League career, as the striker span away from James Collins’ close attentions to square for his teammate to tap home.

David Silva

Rewind just over a decade and Manchester City were not the division’s dominant entity, but instead a rising force just beginning to reap the rewards of their new found wealth.

Arguably City’s first statement win on route to displacing Manchester United at the summit of the Premier League came in October 2011, as the ‘noisy neighbours’ rocked up at their rival’s backyard and produced a performance for the ages.

Roberto Mancini’s men ran riot in the second half to secure a 6-1 win at Old Trafford and go five points clear at the top of the table.

David Silva was the architect of a one-sided derby destruction, with this wonderful touch and volley assist a highlight as City inflicted United’s heaviest home defeat since February 1955.

Cesc Fabregas

Any montage of magical Premier League assists would not be complete without this effort from Cesc Fabregas, a man who set up 111 goals during a career of creative elegance in English football.

Fabregas marked his Premier League debut for Chelsea with a genius cushioned pass for Andre Schurrle at Burnley.

The midfielder was perhaps the only person inside Turf Moor to have spotted the run of the Schurrle, who ghosted in behind a defensive line of seven claret shirts to gratefully accept the gift.

“The Fabregas pass is arguably the best I’ve seen in a long, long time because of the control, the awareness, the quality and shape of the pass — it lands perfectly for him (Schurrle) to guide it into the goal,” Burnley boss Sean Dyche conceded.

“You don’t see that every week. It was an absolutely fantastic moment.”

Adama Traore

The baby-oiled bullet train might just be one of the most frustrating footballers the Premier League has seen, but when it all comes together for Traore there are few more spectacular sights.

This outrageous assist against West Ham was an example of what Traore is capable of when in the mood, picking up possession deep inside his own half before embarking on a one-man crusade towards the Hammers goal.

Claret and blue shirts tried (and failed) to keep pace with the Spanish speedster, who left a trail of opposition defenders in his wake before crossing for Leander Dendoncker to head home.

Joao Cancelo

Full-back has become more fashionable that ever before in the modern era, with players like Joao Cancelo having flown the flag for the position.

Cancelo was no stranger to applause inducing moments at Manchester City, including this outstanding assist as the Portuguese channelled his inner Ricardo Quaresma to produce a trivela assist for Raheem Sterling.

Magnífico.

Alexander Isak

Newcastle fans just LOVE a centre-forward.

Even more so when said centre-forward is capable of producing individual moments like this.

Alexander Isak has wasted no time in making himself a firm favourite in the north east and produced an electric solo assist during Newcastle’s win at Everton during his debut campaign. The Swede’s scintillating speed and sharp footwork embarrassed Everton, before crossing for Jacob Murphy to provide the simplest of finishing touches.
