Transfer Deadline Day: 10 deals to watch

Transfer Deadline Day is here and Premier League clubs are running out of time to secure deals with the window set to slam shut at 11pm on Friday, September 1.

Ahead of the deadline, we look at the deals that could be completed in the final stages of the window.

Transfer Deadline Day – 10 deals to watch:

Brennan Johnson

Nottingham Forest have placed a whopping £40m+ price-tag on Brennan Johnson, in a bid to reduce the growing queue of clubs looking to prise the Wales international from the City Ground.

Eight goals and three assists last season have piqued the interest of rival sides, each looking for an injection of pace and goal threat. Chelsea have moved on to Manchester City’s Cole Palmer in their search for a forward, but Tottenham and Brentford are understood to remain keen on Johnson as the deadline approaches. Forest will be reluctant to let the homegrown hero depart.

Conor Gallagher

Chelsea have splashed the cash on a new-look midfield this summer with the west Londoners spending close to £200m on Moisés Caicedo, Lesley Ugochukwu and Roméo Lavia to beef up their engine room.

Add in the £106.8m capture of Enzo Fernandez in January and the imports have left Conor Gallagher’s future uncertain, despite the England international starting all four games under Mauricio Pochettino to date.

Tottenham and Bayern Munich have been linked, though they’re unlikely to be alone if Chelsea indicate the all-action midfielder can leave before the deadline.

Joao Palhinha

Defensive midfielders have been all the rage this summer, with mammoth sums splashed on the likes of Declan Rice, Moises Caicedo and Manuel Ugarte across Europe.

Joao Palhinha’s fine form at Fulham last season has placed him near the top of shopping lists at elite clubs, with Bayern Munich and Liverpool linked with the 28-year-old. His dominance in duels would be difficult for Fulham to replace, hence an asking price said to be in the region of €90m (£77m).

Ryan Gravenberch

A more cost-effective addition in midfield for Liverpool appears to be Ryan Gravenberch.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have agreed a €40m deal for the Dutchman, who has seen his status as one of Europe’s best young midfielders stall since signing for Bayern Munich last summer.

A change of scenery could be required for Gravenberch after just three league starts last season, with Liverpool now racing to beat the deadline.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool’s recruitment team are focused on a midfield rebuild right now, but the background noise surrounding Mohamed Salah is sure to concern some at Anfield.

Saudi champions Al-Ittihad remain determined to sign Salah, who is viewed as a must-sign addition to the Saudi Pro League given his standing in the Arab world. Liverpool will insist Salah – the club’s leading goalscorer in six straight seasons – is not for sale, but that’s unlikely to stop Al-Ittihad and PIF from throwing a truck-load of cash in his direction.

A bid in excess of £120m and reported wages of £65m a year mean this is one to watch, regardless of the likelihood in this window.

Sofyan Amrabat

Manchester United have been chasing a deal for Sofyan Amrabat all summer, as the club look to add some combative energy to a midfield which has struggled in the season’s early weeks.

Amrabat represents a fine alternative or compliment to Casemiro in the engine room, with the latter having looked rather leaden-footed so far this season. The Moroccan wants to make the move, but meeting Fiorentina’s asking price while working on strict financial restrictions has been the issue.

Johan Bakayoko

Premier League clubs are queuing up to sign Johan Bakayoko with multiple English enquiries said to have been made for the PSV winger.

Liverpool are the latest linked with the 20-year-old, who made his Belgium debut earlier this year. Brentford, Burnley, Tottenham and Everton have also been named as admirers. Brentford have made a club-record bid in the region of £34m, while PSV are close to re-signing Hirving Lozano from Napoli as a replacement.

Eric Dier

Eric Dier has been told he can leave Spurs by new manager Ange Postecoglou, with Fulham and Bayern Munich reportedly vying for his services.

Fulham have been linked with a potential swap-deal that would see Tosin Adarabioyo head in the opposite direction, but interest from Germany makes a deal difficult for the Cottagers if true.

Bayern have already signed one Spurs star after capturing Harry Kane in a £100m deal and could look to reunite the England captain with his old teammate at the Allianz Arena.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looks set to be another casualty of Postecoglou’s early reign at Tottenham, with the Denmark international having lost his place in the team to a resurgent Yves Bissouma.

Atletico Madrid had been keen on a deal for the Dane earlier in the summer, while Manchester United are said to view Hojbjerg as a potential alternative to Sofyan Amrabat.

SergioReguilon

Manchester United had held an interest in Marc Cucurella and approached Chelsea over a loan deal for the left-back, but have since switched targets.

Injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have prompted the Red Devils to dip into the market and a move for Reguilon has been made. The Spaniard is understood to have been granted permission to hold talks with the Red Devils over a loan move to Old Trafford.

Chelsea cup-tied Cucurella during the club’s Carabao Cup win over AFC Wimbledon this week, while United only wanted a loan until January.
