Lukaku completes loan move to Roma

Romelu Lukaku has completed his loan move from Chelsea to Roma, with the deal including an option to make the transfer permanent for a fee of £38m.

Lukaku had been keen to leave Chelsea and has taken a pay cut to move to the Serie A side, who have paid an initial Loan fee in the region of £7m to sign the Belgium international.

Lukaku spent last season on loan at Inter Milan and had been expected to join the club on a permanent basis, but a deal fell through after it was revealed that the 30-year-old had also been negotiating with rivals Juventus.

Roma stole in to seal a deal after Juventus failed to reach an agreement with Chelsea and Lukaku has reunited with former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho in the Italian capital.

Lukaku becomes Roma’s seventh signing of the summer as the club look to build a side capable of challenging near the top of the division. He is the second striker to arrive at the Stadio Olimpico this week, following the capture of Sardar Azmoun on loan from Bayer Leverkusen.

Lukaku – who has scored 75 goals in 108 appearances for Belgium at international level – returns to Serie A after a disappointing spell at Chelsea, with the forward having failed to make an impact since his then-club record £97.5m move to west London in 2021.
