What a weekend of Premier League football that was – now it’s time to hand out some prizes.

The madness really kicked off on Saturday when Manchester United went two goals down in the first four minutes against Nottingham Forest, before winning 3-2. Arsenal‘s title hopes were dented on Saturday when Fulham, who saw defender Calvin Bassey sent off in the second half, scored a late equaliser.

Liverpool capped off a brilliant Super Sunday with an incredible comeback against Newcastle United, while Manchester City had to wait until the 88th minute to find a winner against promoted Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, there were also big wins for Aston Villa, Chelsea, Tottenham, West Ham and Wolves.

Moment of the Week

Newcastle were on course for their first win over Liverpool since 2015; Anthony Gordon put them ahead in first half, the Reds were down to ten men for over an hour of the match and were lucky not to see Trent Alexander-Arnold sent off too.

But the game was flipped on its head when Darwin Nunez came off the bench to score a late brace and secure a massive win for Liverpool. The Uruguayan is yet to start a Premier League game this season, but his 94th-minute winner will do wonders for his standing among the away fans, who were sent into raptures by the dramatic comeback.

Remarkably, Jurgen Klopp claimed it was a “much more difficult” come-from-behind victory than Barcelona in 2019, while Trent Alexander-Arnold said it was “one of our best performances” under the German manager. Alisson called it a “one of a kind” win. This one will certainly live long in the memory and go down as one of the classic Newcastle vs Liverpool games.

Performance of the Week

The numbers Raheem Sterling put up on Friday – two goals, five shots, two key passes, 1.53 expected goal involvements (xGI) and one penalty won – told the story of an impressive performance.

But the eye test told another story; one in which the 28-year-old returns to his silky best, bobbing and weaving through defenders, terrorising opponents with skill and speed, finishing chances like the ice cold killer he became under Pep Guardiola at Man City.

After a below-par season last year, Sterling wants to become “obsessed” with the game again. Based on his showing against Luton, he’s a man possessed.

Goal of the Week

Brentford’s Kevin Schade made sure his first Premier League goal was one to remember. Crystal Palace defenders couldn’t get near the German as he cut inside the box and arrowed the ball into the far side netting.

Pass of the Week

Darwin Nunez is deservedly getting all of the plaudits for his pair of strikes against Newcastle, but Mo Salah set him up beautifully for the winner with a perfect through ball. The Egyptian completely bypasses the defence to put Nunez in position to score. Salah is known for his goal scoring but his passing game is underrated.

Save of the Week

On another day the chances Everton created would have been enough to defeat Wolves, but Jose Sa was equal to them all on Saturday. Abdoulaye Doucouré came agonisingly close to scoring a header but the Portuguese goalkeeper readjusted in midair to tip the ball over the crossbar. Simply sensational.

Miss of the Week

Look, the ball is coming at him at speed and it’s at an awkward height after bouncing off the ground – but we’re still wondering how Casemiro missed the target entirely with the Forest goal gaping before him. At least he made up for it later by nabbing the equaliser for Man United.
