The transfer window is well underway and clubs across Europe’s major leagues are scrambling to get deals done.

With a wealth of Transfer rumours, gossip, and speculation each this summer transfer window, it can be easy to miss some of the completed deals clubs have already confirmed.

Here are seven early deals you might have missed around Europe’s top five leagues.

Alejandro Grimaldo – Benfica to Bayer Leverkusen (Free)

Bayer Leverkusen moved quickly to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign with the free transfer capture of Alejandro Grimaldo from Benfica. The left-back signs on a free after deciding against renewing his contract in Portugal and will link-up with compatriot Xabi Alonso in Leverkusen, with the former Liverpool midfielder having made an impressive start to his coaching career in the Bundesliga.

Grimaldo has forged a reputation as one of the most productive wing-backs outside of Europe’s top five leagues in recent campaigns and starred during Benfica’s title success and run to the Champions League quarter-finals last season.

The Spaniard scored eight goals and provided 16 assists in all competitions for Benfica in 2022/23 and will strengthen the creative options of a Leverkusen side who recovered from a nightmare start to secure Europa League football.

“Alejandro Grimaldo is a versatile, very skilful left-back with great technical experience. He is capable of scoring and has a lot of experience and quality,” Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes told the club’s official website.

“We are happy we were able to convince Alejandro of our ambitious plans for the years ahead.”

Edin Dzeko – Inter Milan to Fenerbahce (Free)

Edin Dzeko proved his evergreen class during Inter Milan’s run to the Champions League final last season, but the Bosnian has now moved on in search of his next challenge after signing a two-year deal at Fenerbahce.

The 37-year-old will link up with former Premier League names in Joshua King, Michy Batshuayi and ex-Rangers winger Ryan Kent at the Turkish side, who finished as runners-up to rivals Galatasaray in the Süper Lig last season.

Dzeko has ended campaigns as the leading scorer in both the Bundesliga and Serie A and will hope to achieve the feat in a new competition next season, having left Inter with a record of 31 goals in 101 appearances across the last two seasons.

Inter are closing in on the signing of one of Europe’s most coveted free agents as a replacement, with the Nerazzurri nearing an agreement to sign Marcus Thuram on a free from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Evan N’Dicka – Eintracht Frankfurt to Roma (Free)

Evan N’Dicka was on the radar of several Premier League clubs after it became apparent the centre-back would not sign a new deal at Eintracht Frankfurt, but the defender has decided to sign for Roma on a long-term deal.

The 23-year-old formed part of the Frankfurt team that won the Europa League in 2021/22 and ranked third in the Bundesliga for clearances and eighth for blocks last season. The left-side central defender will improve the defensive options in Jose Mourinho’s squad as the capital club look to secure a Champions League return next season.

“The way that the project was explained to me along with this club’s history and prestige made me want to come to Rome, which is a fantastic city that loves and lives for football,” N’Dicka said on the move.

“I can’t wait to take to the Olimpico pitch in front of my new supporters and make my contribution towards achieving our objectives.”

Konrad Laimer – RB Leipzig to Bayern Munich (Free)

Bayern Munich have regularly raided their divisional rivals for talent in recent transfer windows and have secured another eye-catching signing in Konrad Laimer.

Laimer has joined the Bundesliga champions on a free transfer from RB Leipzig after turning down a new deal at the Red Bull Arena. Despite fitness issues in recent campaigns, the Austrian international is an all-action presence at his best and will provide competition for Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in midfield.

Also capable of deputising at right-back if required, Laimer admitted he is relishing the challenge of representing Germany’s biggest club after competing against Bayern’s winning machine in recent campaigns.

“It’s a dream come true for me. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Laimer said.

“I will give everything for the club and the fans,” Laimer said of his four-year deal in Munich. “Bayern always has the highest goals – just like me. I’m in the right place here. I’m only capable of giving 100 per cent, and that’s what I’ll put into every training session from day one. I can hardly wait.”

Naby Keita (Liverpool to Werder Bremen – Free)

It’s fair to say Naby Keita’s career at Liverpool did not work out as hoped. Billed as the man for Jurgen Klopp to build his midfield around and handed Steven Gerrard’s number eight shirt, his five seasons with the Reds proved a time of flashes, false dawns and persistent fitness issues.

He averaged less than 10 Premier League starts per season at Liverpool and was allowed to leave when his contract expired this summer, with Keita opting for a return to the Bundesliga after an impressive spell in the division at RB Leipzig.

Werder Bremen have secured his signing, one viewed as a coup for a player named in the Bundesliga’s Team of the Season in 2016/17 and who cost £52.75m when leaving Germany for England in 2018.

Keita’s talent has rarely been doubt, but his body’s continued failings have meant his career has not reached the heights once expected. He will hope a fresh start at the Weserstadion can get him back on track.

Houssem Aouar

Houssem Aouar has regularly been linked with Premier League clubs in recent transfer windows, but has seen his stock fall after a challenging campaign at Lyon that saw the midfielder struggle for form, favour and fitness.

Aouar made just six starts in Ligue 1 last season and has decided on a new challenge this summer after joining Roma as a free agent. The 24-year-old has linked up with Jose Mourinho’s side and ‘The Special One’ will hope that he can coax the best from a talent once backed to reach the very top.

Aouar is inventive, versatile and produced 77 goals and assists in 233 appearances after graduating from the Lyon academy set-up. He earned a senior cap for France in 2020, before changing his international allegiance to represent Algeria – the nation of his parents – earlier this year.

He could prove to be one of the best low-risk high-reward deals of the summer if Roma can bring the best from the midfielder next season.

Raphael Guerreiro

Mario Gotze, Mats Hummels, Robert Lewandowski… Borussia Dortmund have become rather accustomed to seeing stars depart for divisional rivals Bayern Munich.

Raphael Guerreiro is the latest name to swap the yellow of Dortmund for the red of Munich, after signing a deal with the Bundesliga champions to cross the Klassiker divide as a free agent.

His departure – and destination – will be a major blow to Dortmund who missed out on the title in agonising fashion to Bayern last season, as the defending champions scored late on the final weekend to snatch the title on goal difference.

Guerreiro had been a key figure in Dortmund’s challenge as he scored four goals and provided a league-leading 12 assists from left-back, with the Portugal international set to provide competition for Alphonso Davies at the Allianz Arena.

Guerreiro has also shown his capability in midfield, while his arrival could free Davies to operate in a more advanced position with the duo operating in a talented left-sided tandem.
