Fabien Barthez

Fabien Barthez had claimed quite the collection of honours before his move to the Premier League, with the France international having had storied success at both club and international level.

Barthez formed part of the Marseille team that became France’s first, and so far only, Champions League winners during the 1992/93 campaign, with the goalkeeper keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 final win over AC Milan to become the youngest goalkeeper to win the competition at that time.

He moved to Monaco and won two Ligue 1 titles at The Stade Louis-II, a period which saw Barthez cement his place as France’s number one. Les Bleus were crowned world champions for a first time on home soil during the 1998 World Cup, with Barthez integral to their success.

He conceded just two goals in seven games and was awarded the Yashin Award as the tournament’s best goalkeeper.

Barthez signed for Manchester United after helping France to Euro 2000 success, as the Red Devils sought a reliable replacement for Peter Schmeichel. Barthez began well in English football and was named in the PFA Team of the Year after winning the Premier League title in 2000/01.

His form dropped following that first season at Old Trafford, but he added a second Premier League winners’ medal during the 2002/03 campaign. The Frenchman spent three seasons with the Red Devils and made 139 appearances before returning to former club Marseille.

Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry was a team-mate of Barthez during France’s golden era across the turn of the millennium, with the 20-year-old forward ending Les Bleus’ victorious World Cup campaign as the nation’s leading scorer with three goals.

Henry later signed for Arsenal in an £11m deal from Juventus, having failed to make an impact in Turin. The Frenchman reunited with former Monaco manager Arsene Wenger in north London and starred after being converted from an underperforming winger into a central forward.

Henry scored a club-record 228 goals for Arsenal to cement himself as arguably the Premier League’s greatest ever player, with the forward winning a record four Golden Boots during a sensational period with the Gunners.

Arsenal won two Premier League titles during Henry’s time with the club, including the famous 2003/04 ‘Invincibles’ campaign that saw the club end the campaign without defeat.

Henry formed part of the Arsenal side that lost the 2006 Champions League final, but found success in Europe’s top competition after a transfer to Barcelona. The Frenchman scored 26 goals in all competitions as Barcelona won a La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble under Pep Guardiola in 2008/09.

Juliano Belletti

Juliano Belletti was the third player to complete the hat-trick of titles. The right-back was part of the Brazil squad that won the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea, but made just one substitute appearance at the finals due to the presence of Cafu in the national side.

Belletti’s club career took in spells in Spain and England, with the defender signing for Barcelona after two seasons at Villarreal. His second season saw Belletti score the crucial winner as Barcelona won the Champions League. The substitute scored his first and only goal for the Catalans to secure a 2-1 win over Arsenal in Paris.

The Brazilian moved on after a third season in which he struggled for fitness and favour and signed for Chelsea in a £4m deal. Belletti made 94 appearances across three seasons with the west Londoners and won a Premier League and FA Cup double under Carlo Ancelotti in 2009/10.

Gerard Pique

Gerard Pique retired from football as one of the sport’s most decorated defenders, following a career of success at Manchester United and Barcelona.

Pique signed for Manchester United as a teenager and won a Premier League and Champions League double with the Red Devils in 2007/08, but decided to move on in search of regular football having struggled for opportunities ahead of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

The centre-back re-signed for Barcelona – having come through the club’s academy system – and had immediate success in Spain. He made 45 appearances as the Catalans won a La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble under Pep Guardiola in 2008/09. He is one of just four players to win the Champions League in consecutive seasons with different teams, alongside Marcel Desailly, Paulo Sousa and Samuel Eto’o.

Pique went on to win further Champions League titles in 2011 and 2015 and also formed part of Spain’s dominant reign at international level. La Roja won three consecutive major tournaments between 2008 and 2012, with Pique forming part of the latter two successes. Spain were crowned world champions for a first time after a World Cup win in South Africa in 2010.

Pedro

Pedro was another member of Barcelona and Spain’s successful eras, having won a wealth of honours with the former at club level.

The winger broke into the team under Pep Guardiola and went on to win five league titles and three Champions League trophies, with Pedro integral to the club’s success in Europe in 2010/11. He scored 22 goals in all competitions, including the opener in the 2011 Champions League final win over Manchester United at Wembley.

Pedro was named in the Spain squad for the 2010 World Cup despite being uncapped before the announcement and made five appearances at the tournament. He started the final win over the Netherlands in Johannesburg, as Andre Iniesta’s extra-time goal secured a 1-0 win.

After 321 appearances for Barcelona, Pedro signed for Chelsea in a £21m deal. He spent four seasons with the west Londoners and won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League during his time at Stamford Bridge.

N’Golo Kante

N’Golo Kante has been a medal magnet during an incredible career, one which saw the midfielder rise from relative unknown to one of the best box-to-box influences of his generation.

Kante rose to prominence after signing for Leicester City, who he helped to a shock Premier League title success during the 2015/16 campaign. The Frenchman’s form persuaded Chelsea to sign Kante in a £32m deal that summer, with the investment wise as the midfielder starred during another title triumph

Kante was named as winner of the PFA Player of the Year award after becoming the first outfield player to win consecutive English top-flight titles with different clubs since Eric Cantona in 1992 and 1993.

Kante has since racked up the honours at Chelsea, adding the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup to his medal collection.

He was instrumental during Chelsea’s run to Champions League success under Thomas Tuchel in 2021, with man-of-the-match performances in both legs of the semi-final and final to earn him the UEFA Men’s Midfielder of the year accolade.

The midfielder was also a pivotal presence as France were crowned World Cup winners in 2018, starting all seven fixtures of Les Bleus’ campaign in Russia.

Julian Alvarez

Julian Alvarez has become the seventh footballer to win all three trophies, following an extraordinary first season at Manchester City.

Alvarez linked up with his new team-mates last summer after signing from River Plate and has scored 17 goals in 49 appearances during City’s treble-winning season.

The Argentine has had to deal with a supporting role given the presence of Erling Haaland, but has been a key contributor this season for Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering team.

Last winter he took on a central role with the national team, as Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. La Albiceleste were crowned world champions for the first time sine 1986, with Alvarez scoring four goals at the tournament. The forward became the youngest player since Pelé in 1958 to score a brace in a World Cup semi-final after netting twice in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Croatia.
