Get your kids begging to go outside with Geocaching

In this day and age, getting kids excited to go outdoors can be tough. If you’ve never heard of Geocaching before let me explain. It’s a lot of fun and a great activity to do with the whole family.

I used to do it when I was a child and I loved it. Being user-generated, you can even create and hide caches yourself. I placed one around 2012/13 and it still stands today. Try and find it (here’s the link)

More about Geocaching:

Geocaching is a modern-day scavenger hunt that uses GPS-enabled devices such as smartphones or handheld GPS devices to navigate to a specific set of coordinates and then find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Geocaches can be found all around the world and come in various sizes, shapes, and difficulty levels.

Not only is it a fun activity, but it also promotes physical activity, problem-solving skills, and a love for the outdoors. It’s a great way to explore new places and see familiar areas in a new light. With millions of geocaches hidden worldwide, there are plenty of opportunities to find one near you.

Why your kids will love Geocaching:

Geocaching is an exciting and adventurous activity that kids and adults of all ages can enjoy. Here are a few reasons why your kids will love geocaching:

  1. Treasure hunt: Geocaching is like a modern-day treasure hunt. Kids love the thrill of the hunt and the excitement of finding hidden treasures.
  2. Outdoor adventure: Geocaching takes place outdoors, which gives kids the opportunity to explore new places, breathe fresh air, and get some exercise.
  3. Technology: Kids love using technology, and geocaching combines GPS technology with outdoor adventure.
  4. Problem-solving: It requires problem-solving skills, which can help kids develop their critical thinking abilities.
  5. Creativity: Geocaching is a user-generated activity, which means that anyone can create and hide their own geocache. This allows kids to get creative and come up with their own unique geocache ideas.

How to get started:

Getting started with geocaching is easy. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Download a geocache app: There are several apps available. These apps will help you navigate to the cache locations. Or use their website.
  2. Create an account: Once you’ve downloaded the app, create an account on the geocaching website or app.
  3. Find a cache: Use the app to find a cache near you. The app will provide you with the GPS coordinates, the difficulty level, and any hints that may be available.
  4. Go on a treasure hunt: Follow the GPS coordinates to the cache location and start your treasure hunt. When you find the cache, sign the logbook, and trade any trinkets or toys you brought with you.
  5. Hide your own cache: If you enjoy geocaching, you can create and hide your own cache for others to find. Just make sure to follow the geocaching guidelines and get permission if necessary.

Geocaching is a fun and exciting activity that the whole family can enjoy. It’s a great way to get outside, explore new places, and spend quality time together. So, grab your GPS-enabled device and start your Treasure Hunt today!
